Tarot Tuesday: The Crossroads, Four Roads, One Step

A crossroads is not four roads. It is four roads and one person who can only walk down one of them.
On Thursday the sky opens four at once. Venus changes signs, Mercury changes signs, Uranus stops and turns backwards, and the Virgo New Moon lands to close the day. All four are real, but only one of them is the road you are actually standing on.
Today the Moon meets Jupiter in Leo, which is the transit that makes all four look excellent. That is precisely the problem. Jupiter does not do discrimination.
So today’s spread is four cards laid at the compass points, and the shape is doing half the reading. Lay them in the order the events happen: east, south, west, then north. Leave the middle empty.
The empty middle is you, today, not committed to anything yet.
Deal it now if you have a deck. If you don’t, pull four at SASS Tarot and lay them the same way.
🕊️ EAST, THE FIRST ROAD: The Lovers
Two white doves lean into each other on a pale stone balustrade, beaks almost touching, with a heap of dark red roses spilling over the rail between them. Everything else in the picture has been washed out to sepia. The roses are the only thing left with any color in it. The Lovers is not a romance card, it is a choice card, and the choice is always between two things you genuinely want. This road asks what you would pick if nobody had to approve it.
🦦 SOUTH, THE SECOND ROAD: Two of Swords
A platypus sits hunched in the shallows with a white blindfold wrapped over its eyes and two blades crossed against its chest, one webbed foot planted in the water, moonlight coming down through the reeds above it. Nothing in this card is moving. An animal built entirely for sensing what is around it, and somebody has covered the part that does the sensing. This is the conversation you keep having in your head instead of with the person, and Mercury arriving in Libra hands you three weeks of unusually good phrasing to finally go and have it. The card only works if you spend it on somebody real.
🦥 WEST, THE THIRD ROAD: The Hanged Man
A sloth hangs upside down from a branch in a dark green canopy, completely unbothered, while a few pale petals drift past below it. It is not stuck. It lives like this. Uranus turns retrograde on Thursday and stays that way until February 8, which makes this the only one of the four roads that does not resolve this season. Whatever this card touches, you are not deciding it this week. That is allowed, and the sloth would like you to know it is comfortable.
🦫 NORTH, THE LAST ROAD: Knight of Pentacles
A beaver sits upright at the edge of still dark water, looking up, with white lilies open around it in the dark. Knights carry things. This one carries them slowly, and it is the only knight in the deck that never rushes and never quits. The Virgo New Moon closes Thursday out and it rewards small repeatable things over the grand gestures every single time. Whatever you start here you should still be doing in December.
Now look at the empty middle. Four roads, and Jupiter spent all of today telling you that every one of them is excellent.
Which card did you look at first? That is usually the answer, and it is usually not the one you would have picked on purpose.
