Love Horoscope for the Week of June 4

Whether you’re reaching out to a potential new partner or trying to work something out in your existing relationship, it seems pretty obvious that communication is the key. In theory, that’s obviously true. But in practice, you may have noticed that getting your ideas across to another person clearly is often not as easy as it should be.

With both the Sun and Mercury currently in Gemini, you would think that the natural flow of communication would be improved. But that’s not always the case. This week’s aspects are giving Lil’ Ol’ Mercury a fairly serious beating, and that’s unfortunate because the big emotional aspect of the week is pretty emotionally demanding.

Most of this week’s big Mercury news is exact on Tuesday but influences the entire week. First of all, Sun conjunct Mercury is the sort of aspect that happens often enough that it usually doesn’t get a whole lot of recognition (because Mercury never gets more than 28 degrees away from the Sun). This aspect can mess with your communications and make it a little harder to find the right words.

Not finding the right words and wanting to keep on yapping anyway are two entirely different things, and it when it comes to yapping, few aspects describe that state as well as Mercury quincunx Jupiter, which is also exact on Tuesday. Not only is it possible that you will find the right words, you will end up shouting them.

Things quickly go from difficult to downright scrambled for Mercury, as on Wednesday Mercury square Neptune is not only likely to further impair your thoughts and words, it also makes it less likely for you to realize how impaired they are. So think carefully before that sudden verbal outburst, especially with a loved one.

Normally under circumstances like this, I would just simply advise you to take a week off from talking to anyone, as if that was possible, or at the very least to be more cautious about who you were talking to and what you say to them. This week’s biggest romance-related aspect doesn’t make that easy though. Venus opposite Pluto is exact on Wednesday but manages to make the emotional terrain difficult throughout the week.

Venus in Cancer is a strong and loving placement, but often isn’t ready to give away all of its heart all at once. It can also be a little more defensive than most other Venus placements. But when placed in opposition to Pluto, things can go a little haywire. This aspect has a very needy and demanding quality to it, and that’s not a mood that Venus in Cancer is normally comfortable with. This can set up romantic situations that can often be repaired with a little communication, but did you notice what kind of shape Mercury is in this week?

Finally: as you figured out by now, success with astrology is all about the timing… and by now you’ve probably heard all about how initiating a project — even a romantic one — on a Void of Course Moon isn’t usually a good idea. The next couple of months are filled with some unusually long voids, and the most useful evening hours for a date on Tuesday or Sunday evening this week are lost in the Void. It’s best to stick to Friday or Saturday evening for that important first date.
