Love Horoscope for the Week of May 7

Squares have a reputation for being the most difficult of aspects. Trines and sextiles like to play nice, conjunctions are powerful, and oppositions always have a chance to work out their differences together. But the power of the square is not to be ignored, and this week sees three important square aspects that are likely to have a direct bearing on relationships.

Suppose you cooked a meal for all the aspects. The trine and sextile would say it was delicious (but you might secretly suspect that they’re just being polite), the conjunction would dive in and eat it all up without further comment, and the opposition would likely spend most of the meal discussing your cooking technique. But the square? The square would either wolf it all down enthusiastically (followed by a burp) or turn up its nose and makes gagging noises. Either way though, there would be no guesswork as to how your meal turned out.

The tone is set in the early part of the week by two important squares to personal planets. First on Monday, Mercury square Pluto will make everyone’s thoughts and communications a little more demanding and more insistent. That sort of thing is great for dashing off an impulsive love letter or sext, but even if the motivation behind what’s being said is good, the technique or the timing can be off.

This takes on particular importance when you consider that Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, and Monday’s second square involves Venus in Gemini in a square to Neptune. Venus square Neptune is dewy-eyed, romantic, and sometimes indiscriminate to a fault. It’s a great buzz but it can potentially lead you down the wrong romantic path without realizing it, and since Mercury is tied up in that square with Pluto, Venus in Gemini may not be as discerning as it normally might be.

If conditions aren’t optimum for making perfectly brilliant romantic decisions this week, at least you should be able to have a bit of fun with things. On Tuesday night, Sun opposite Jupiter lends everything a nice bouncy mood, and will likely be good for lifting your spirits and socializing. Further turning up the good feelings is Sun trine Pluto, which is exact on Friday. Try to focus on that feeling, because on Saturday Mercury square Mars acts as a bit of a re-run of Monday’s Mercury-Pluto communications hazards, and on Sunday Mercury conjunct Uranus might make you even more insistent on sharing your insights (or as others may see it, “running your mouth”). So be careful, or — ah, to heck with it. The Moon is in Aries for most of the weekend, so why not adopt the Aries “go large or go home” attitude?
