Love Horoscope for the Week of October 2

This week’s big astrological news is mostly about Venus and Mars getting together in Virgo. This comes with all the usual warnings about overspending and breaking your diet, but how much fun is that? Let’s talk about sex instead!

Mars represents the aggressive (or, if you prefer, Yang side) of your urge to mate. Mars trine Pluto was exact last Sunday but its influence continues to hover over the entire week. That, in and of itself, would tend to amplify sex drives and possibly lead to some impulses that you should have thought through more carefully. Likewise, Venus trine Pluto, which is exact on Tuesday, can lead to some bad romantic decisions. Venus rules candy and sweets — and have you ever had that experience where you suddenly absolutely have to have chocolate RIGHT NOW? Pluto has that effect on Venus this week, and that applies to your need for love and affection as well.

All of this comes to a peak on Thursday when Venus conjunct Mars is exact — and it is joined by a Full Moon in Aries on that same day. Neither Full Moons nor Aries are particularly associated with “impulse control,” are they?

“Wait a minute,” you may be asking, “why is Matthew being so negative about all this? He seems like a fun guy who isn’t usually opposed to a nice frisky shag.” Well, normally that’s true, and admittedly if you put a little thought into it you can make much better use of this week’s energies than the worst case scenario that I’ve been describing. But all the potential fun and games this week come with a warning.

The reason I’m showing so much concern for your emotional well-being and potentially misleading lack of self-control is that most of us get our action on the weekend, and Sunday is the day when Venus square Saturn is exact, and Mars Square Saturn, although exact next week, is coming into play by the end of this week. Sure, a Venus-Mars conjunction is a lot of fun both in and out of bed, but a square to both of those planets from Saturn? That’s potentially a recipe for heartbreak… or at least indigestion and disappointment. So if all you’re looking for is a one night stand, go for it. Besides: the Moon is in Taurus for Friday and Saturday evenings, and have you ever tried to keep a Taurus from something sensual they really, really want? Yeah, you can stand in front of that charging Bull if you like… just be prepared for the consequences.
