Love Horoscope for the Week of July 3

Here’s your free “love life” advice for the week: sometimes you’ve got to tear something down before you can build something new. That could be an attitude, a recurring behavior, an old attachment that keeps someone from moving on — and it could be yours or your partner’s situation that needs bulldozing. Lucky you, the biggest astrological aspect of the week is Mars opposite Pluto (which was exact last week but is still in effect throughout this week). There… you see how positive and love ‘n light I was about one of the tensest and most personally volatile aspects of them all? Try to take the same high-road approach with loved ones and the people you interact with, instead of giving in to the constant urge to bicker and bitch and bellyache like so many others will be doing this week.

Other than that, there are a lot of positive influences on romance this week. Venus in Taurus is generally considered to be a strong placement for love and affection, so it might not be a surprise that the powers of Venus in Gemini (which begins on Tuesday) get downplayed by comparison. That’s unfair for a couple of reasons. First of all, Gemini is well known for “communication,” and as any pop psychologist can tell you, communication is vital to a relationship. Second: Venus in Gemini tends to be flat-out fun… and couldn’t your love life use a little more of that?

Tuesday brings an aspect that may temporarily scramble your communications: Mercury square Uranus. Don’t worry too much about it though… treat it like a three or four day long Mercury Retrograde, be careful with your spelling and communications and short trips, and you should be fine. For bonus points: since Mercury rules Gemini (where Venus is now), that Uranian energy could make for some lively and unusual attractions.

There is also a Jupiter-Neptune quincunx in effect. I normally don’t spend too much time talking about quincunxes (because among other things, quincunxes are just plain weird and a bit hard to describe properly), but this one deserves a mention. On the one hand, it provides exactly the right amount of dreaminess and optimism to get a new relationship rolling. On the other hand, it also provides exactly the right amount of dreaminess and optimism needed to be really stupid about someone or something. Pay close attention to logic and reason before you agree to go off with that charming stranger to that remote cabin in the woods where no one can hear you having the time of your life… or possibly hear you scream.

One way or another, the weekend is a good time to blow off some steam — or possibly blow things up. This weekend features a Full Moon in Capricorn late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Any Full Moon is prime time for emotional outbursts and upsets (some of which are necessary and/or can be put to new use), but this one packs a particular punch, as it is conjunct Pluto. If you want excitement with someone, make those plans now. If you want to avoid a blow-up that’s been brewing a while, make plans now to stay at home.
