Aspects between natal Mars and Pluto create a potent, sometimes frightening, source of energy. Mars fires up the Pluto need for control, while Pluto intensifies Mars’ desire to conquer. Hard aspects (conjunction, opposition, square) between Mars and Pluto can be especially challenging. These two planets are so strong that even the unity of the conjunction can create friction. The conflict of the hard aspects triggers the most intense manifestations of Mars/Pluto energy.

Me: A Cautionary Tale. 🙂
Okay….Mars at 13 Gem trine Pluto at 11 Lib…both planets sextile my sun at 13 Leo….Scorp Asc. So much fun, as you can imagine.
This article actually answered a question I’ve had for a long time about why people react to me the way they do…I like to think that I mean no harm to others and I usually do not (Nep in 1st), but I get a lot of…the only way I can really describe it is that people act like their boss just walked in. I used to think that it was my Asc, as people react strongly to the Scorp energy. However, I also notice that people tend to apologize to me all the time…eg if I’ve been standing in line at the grocery store waiting to check out and someone ahead of me holds up the line. I’m pretty patient (Tau Moon), and to me, waiting is just a part of life. I get to the checker and the first thing he/she says is “I’m sorry for the wait”. And this is when I’m the 4th person along after the one who held up the line – and he/she doesn’t say it to anyone else. I also get people moving quickly out of my way when I walk around, or just a strong reaction (backing up).
I just thought I was imagining things…the world doesn’t revolve around me.
I also can identify with the control factor. I cannot stand to lose control of myself, not for one nanosecond, not for anything. I don’t feel this urge as much with other people, as with keeping myself under control. There is nothing more anathema to me than someone who cannot (or will not) control himself. It’s just…ugh. And I’m not good with crying. I’ll cry for angry before I cry for sadness.
Always looking for for ulterior motives? Check. I’ve had a significant amount of trauma in my life, so it goes without saying that trust is a huge issue.
I do try to use my powers for good. 🙂
@Head In Hands
With the trine, I would imagine this energy is better expressed? Pluto does seem to give a magnetizing aura to many touched by it.
Uh oh..
Mars in Scorp, 10th house, Aqua moon square mars, Sag ascendent semi-square mars
Pluto in Scorp, 11th house, Sag uranus semi-square pluto, mars conjuct pluto
The beginning of this article describes me to a T. Incidents in childhood that I won’t get into has left me suspicious of everyone, and as a result, I don’t form close relationships that often. I still speak to people from when I was 5, but I claim only 3 or 4 real friends that I trust w/my life and I know would never ever get on my bad side. Friendships are the most important relationships to me, and I can’t stand superficial ones.
As for romantic elationships, we won’t even go there. Just last night I was telling a friend “Oh yeah, that love crap is nice, I just don’t want any part of it,” “Sure I’ll get married so long as I’m not in love” and “I’ll be the one to marry out of convenience. Not for money because I can make it myself, but because I’m old and lonely and want to marry a friend.” lol
A lovely Scorp man I was sorta seeing last year told me “no one’s out to get you, so why are you so defensive?” Spoken from one who knows!
Needless to say, I end up apologizing to some poor beau a year or two later, even though that is a sad manipulation sometimes. I’d like to think that my multiple Sag placements allow me to stop any expression of being manipulative but… I know I’d be lying lol Some areas I’m good while in others I can offend my own Sag ideals! But really, it all is a test. I’ll chip away at a man’s ego to see what he’ll do, hoping that he’ll stand up for himself and put me in my place. For me, there’s nothing sexier than a guy with a backbone.
I would say that I especially love my Scorp placement because it helps me to spot a liar a mile away. I know that’s where most of my investigative abilities come from and it allows my easily bored Sag sun/asc mind to focus on one project. Plus, the mars in scorp stamina and regenerative force is always a plus (my fav thing about living is how ppl adapt or rise above drastically changing situations).
@Head In Hands
I know what you mean about the strong reactions. I get people who think I’m an authority figure, always asking for directions for something. People either love me or can’t stand me. I don’t understand either because I don’t actually do anything I think to get that recognition.
Ah well, at least life isn’t boring?
@NovLady: I think the energy is more easily expressed – definitely easier than with the “hard” aspects. It’s less painful to use and access and it flows better. Besides the control, I can identify with the obsession – but with that trine in air, it’s more of an obsession for gathering information (I’m very thorough) and learning. I can obsess about people, but it lasts much shorter than it used to. My crushes are very intense.
@quiche: I am paranoid with a capital “P”! My sister has said to me on several occasions that there’s no one out to get me – least of all her and my other sister. I spend a great deal of time (and life) on the defensive. I can also spot a liar a mile away – I love having a b.s. detector, though sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be credulous or not suspicious.
Relationships are not my thing at all. I’ve spoken elsewhere on Sasstrology about my immediate ex, but before him, I was not interested. Nor am I interested now. I’m most content when I’m on my own. Bachelorhood fits me best. I’m a solitary sort, so, on top of being wary of others, I take friendships very seriously as well as my family (Ven in Can). That’s why social networking throws me – it has cheapened the meaning of “friend”. I use it, but sometimes I see other people with 400-something FB friends (to my 47 – all of whom I already know) or hundreds of Twitter followers and just smh.
I really identified with this article and have been wondering just what these aspects could mean in the way of expressing myself in relationships to others – with people that I work with, friendships and romantic relationships and it explains so much. I have a stellium in the 3rd house in Virgo of Uranus at 1, Mars at 3 and Pluto at 9 degrees. Having been the product of childhood abuse by parents and siblings and consequently later in life by long-term partners, this has left me with deep trust issues and feeling of intense self-protectiveness. I can identify absolutely with some of the control issues and feelings about engaging in relationships that @Quiche and @Head in Hands have expressed. With my sun in the 12th house, I have a need for solitude anyway as a means of recharging my batteries and I find I am more at peace with myself since deciding not to pursue any romantic relationships at this time in my life.
When I do find myself attracted to someone, I have experienced the intensity of the “crush” and feeling of fixating on that person – now thanks to finding this article, I have an explanation as to why the energies of the emotions manifest themselves in me like that. This the first time I have seen an astrological interpretation like this that really put a finger on the way these energies manifest themselves. Most of the interpretations I’ve read didn’t really explain this aspect like this. Because of the aspect appearing in my 3rd house – it was mostly explained as the way I communicate with people. This explains the emotional whys of the control and trust issues I have.
@Head in Hands
The “easy” aspects between Mars and Pluto do allow for a smoother flow of energy, as you pointed out. But with two heavy-duty planets like these even the easy aspects create a potent connection.
Interesting how you described people responding to your power/authority. It’s fortunate that you’re aware of this and I think the fact that Mars and Pluto are in social Air signs really helps. Diffuses the intensity somewhat (although it’s still pretty intense). Your comment about social networking “cheapening” the meaning of friend is classic Pluto/Scorpio. Always penetrating through the mask to get to the real deal underneath. Pluto in Libra wants profound (Pluto) connections (Libra).
@quiche
Your multiple Sag placements will certainly help with your awareness of the Mars/Pluto power. Sag can also help to keep you buoyed up when that all that Scorpio energy threatens to weight you down. Mars/Pluto in the 10th/11th Houses are very public placements. 10th House is career/ambitions and 11th House represents the group so it’s the first thing people notice about you when you walk into a room…it might even overwhelm that Sag Ascendent. It’s like having a large, intimidating animal at your side at all times; you don’t have to do anything but people will notice and respond. How they respond says a lot about their relationship to power. People who love you are comfortable with that level of power/depth while others are threatened by it. What you experience as people “hating” you is actually their fear.
@earthairgirl
Glad you found the article helpful.
Mars/Pluto in Virgo really emphasizes the theme of “what’s wrong”. Virgo always identifies with what’s missing/wounded/broken (because of the Virgo eye for detail). So those initial wounds you received in childhood would reverberate, especially with the Mars/Pluto drive to simultaneously protect yourself and ferret out more circumstances that would potentially hurt you. Uranus’ influence would magnify the urge to detach to protect yourself from more trauma. The 3rd House (communication/intellect) will help you analyze all this. I would also look at Mercury (ruler of Virgo) and see what it’s doing in your chart (house/sign positions and aspects). This will give you more information on how you have been processing it.
@ Nadia Gilchrist
A psychic told me this a long time ago, and I’ve seen it play out in the work field (I’m a recent grad so I don’t have much experience). Thank you for the article; it gives me some things to work on while I’ve got some down time.
This is totally off topic, but while looking for my Mars/Pluto placements a website gave the Sabinan symbol for my Scorp/Pluto placement:
A hare watches a bright star in the sky and does not see the gun is pointed at it.
Saying that I could become so engrossed in research, occultism, astrology etc to not notice danger ahead. I thought it was funny and kinda fitting.
ouch!
I’ve got a Pluto/Sun/South Node stellium in Virgo in the 8th, and my Mars in Sag in the 11th is squaring that Pluto. And both Mars and Pluto are inconjunct my Saturn rx in Taurus in the 4th. So yeah, no wonder that in spite of my Moon/Venus exact conjunction in Leo in the 7th…. I’ve been single for the better part of 20 years after leaving a 5 yr teen romance that was ever so ‘Sid and Nancy.’
Even my therapist politely refers to me as ‘intense’ and don’t you know it took me going through about a dozen until I found a nice older non PhD who works with PTSD vets who totally was not afraid of me or whatever anger I might have brewing underneath. All the others I frightened and damn if I was going to trust whatever contrived methodology they were going to map me into.
I guess the good news is that I also started my self awareness kick about 20 years ago, too? And I’m just trying more and more to accept that yeah, I do scare most men off, even if they have the hots for me from afar.
@ Nadia G.
“Pluto in Libra wants profound (Pluto) connections (Libra).”
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I mostly keep to myself partly because it’s my nature and partly because I found out early that most people do not like the depths or even acknowledging they’re there. Deep convos? Forget it. And both my parents were Lib suns/water moons (Mom in Can, Dad in Pis) – grew up frustrated at the superficiality of it all.
Speaking of nodes – my Pluto is conj my N. Node, so apparently, I’m supposed to be doing something with my Mar-Pluto contacts.
Help! I have Mars in Pisces in opposition to Pluto in Virgo, and Mars is conjunct the MC, and Pluto the IC.
I have always had trust issues as well as anger issues. Pulled into that opposition is also Jupiter and Uranus in Virgo, and Moon and Chiron in Pisces all staged in the 4th/10th houses. I’m a very sensitive woman, too, with the Pisces Moon and Cancer ascendant, as well.
I have never felt at ease in intimate romantic relationships and pretty much avoid them now, though I had a number of relationships during my 20’s and 30’s. I feel very isolated in my personal life. I can be a very intense and forthright person, though, and can show anger. I don’t know…..life is not very comfortable, emotionally, for me, and lately it’s been worse that ever.
I really have never learned to reconcile this energy in my chart, though it’s made me very tenacious in other areas of my life, such as career. I just walk around feeling like I’m not a very nice person, though, even though I can be very nice and very accommodating and helpful.
@plutoperative
Pluto in the 8th square Mars in the 11th suggests personal boundaries/anxieties that are challenged by actions from outsiders (the 11th House represents the collective). Also, Sun/Pluto/South Node indicates the solution to this lies with your North Node (Pisces/2nd House). South Node stuff is limiting behavior that comes naturally and North Node stuff is what you can do evolve beyond that. So moving away from that self-protective (8th House) behavior and creating personal resources/security (2nd House) through letting go and trusting (Pisces). Not easy for Pluto square Mars to do, especially when your ego (Sun) is wrapped up in that.
@L.A.P
When Pluto is conjunct the IC it means the potential for transformation of this energy directly lies in addressing childhood issues and transforming your relationship to the past/parents. With a Mars/Pluto opposition the polarity point (opposite) point to Pluto is energized by Mars and that’s part of the battle right there. You say you’re tenacious in your career which is an excellent use of that Mars/Pluto energy. The rest of the battle lies in continuing to develop your public life (10th House) in a more positive way over the early messages you received as a child (Pluto conjunct IC). It’s the dual task of transforming the image that was set when you were young and building on that successful public image. Cancer rising will make the Moon/relationship with your Mother critical to this process. Feeling like you are “not nice” is that sensitive Pisces Moon absorbing some negative energy at an early age and Mars/Pluto protecting you. But that protection is not needed now (as an adult) and is counterproductive (since it isolates you).
I posted under my FB by accident. How would an inconjunct at a 1 degree orb operate? I can seriously relate to what all the other posters are talking about. Mars retro Taurus 9th house to Pluto Libra 2nd house. I’ve had some uncomfortable stuff happen in my life. I also travel quite a bit by train (Mars 9th?) and if I so much as glance at people (especially men), they will think I actually want to talk to them. It is sort of a joke amongst my friends of my odd experiences I constantly have at the train stations.
Nadia,
Thank you so much for answering my post and for your insights into my Mars/Pluto opposition. I will use this as a guide to help me transform the way this aspect has manifested in my life. With gratitude.. 🙂
@fireopal09
An inconjunct means adjustments between two very different energies. In your case, Mars in 9th House Taurus is the drive to build structures/security (Taurus) by expanding/traveling (9th House). The need to build something solid for yourself but also to keep exploring. This must adjust to your need to protect (Pluto) your own boundaries/resources (2nd House). So you keep control of relationships (Libra) as a way of making yourself feel secure (2nd House) but another part of you (Mars) wants to explore (9th House), even if it’s in a very structured way (Taurus). Men (Mars) that you meet while traveling respond to this. With an inconjunct, the key is finding a balance between the two energies; protecting yourself (Pluto) and expanding (9th House) your boundaries (Taurus). The more aware you become of your self-protective instincts, the easier they will be manage. It’s the paradox of Pluto…become conscious of the unconscious power and you automatically gain power over it.
@fireopal09
…to add one more layer of contradictions, Mars Rx will internalize that drive to explore. So traveling (9th House) but self-protectively (Mars Rx will turn your energy/will inwards and make you unsure how to assert yourself). So a lot of conflict around internalized energy wanting to come out but not having a smooth outlet.
I am so confused.. I’m also new here. Can someone help me understand how I figure out if I am a Mars/Pluto person? This article sounds (uncomfortably) familiar – actually, I looked around to find the hidden camera…. **sigh**
If in fact I am a Mars/Pluto then I am happy to say that I am in the “rewarding” stage. Hence how I came across this site. (Long Story – but my search query led me here.)
Back to my original question – I have my natal chart – but, I have NO idea how to interpret it any further than reading the explanations that it came with.
Mars is in 09 degrees Leo and Pluto is 29 degrees Virgo ?? But, no idea how that combinations relates to each other.
@kaydee72
From what you’ve written your Mars and Pluto do not form an aspect (conjunction, trine, sextile, opposition, square, inconjunct) with each other. So you’re not a Mars/Pluto person in that sense. Certain signs form aspects (special connections) with each other but not all signs form aspects with each other. So Your Mars and Pluto would have to be in two signs that form that connection.
But if the article resonated with you it’s possible your Pluto may be emphasized in some way.
Kaydee, you do not have a Mars-Pluto aspect but you may be resonating with the article for other reasons, perhaps a strong Scorpio emphasis.
Hi
I also have the inconjunct between Mars and Pluto at 1 degree. It’s an awkward amount of energy because Mars is retrograde in Aries in the 1st house (intercepted as I’m a Pisces Rising), and Pluto is in Scorpio in the 8th house. Both planets in their strongest houses. I certainly relate to the idea of ones personal power being threatened, but sometimes I am even afraid of my own power at times and what it can do. Is this normal with this aspect? I sometimes feel almost a fear of expression and I feel intensely sad and angry at not overcoming.
Mars is also afflicted with two squares to Venus in Cancer (5th house) and my chart ruler Neptune (Capricorn, 10th house). Pluto has a few trines to the Ascendant and Venus, as well as sextile Neptune. Do these planets plug into the configuration heavily as a result?
Thanks for Reading 🙂
Mars in Cancer(conjunct with Mercury at the same degree) trine Pluto in Scorpio, opp. Moon/Neptune in Capricorn:
I find extremely unpleasing to let weakness show thought I feel I’m way too sensitive and weak, when I try to find some healing it is through placing my sensitivity as a strength. As Mercury/Mars and Pluto are placed respectively at the 6th and 10th house, and being a Gemini, I see this drive as a passion for knowledge and research as I can go hours and hours losing sleep on any subject of my interest, including Astrology. Certainly knowledge is my best defense, if I ever do feel threathned by anyone I try to know that person better before shielding me, I have a keen intuition about people in general but I tend trying to be as rational as possible and being patient to let things prove themselves with time. Dreams and oracles are very revealing to me and just feed the hunger to learn more and more. I had a long relationship with a Venus/Pluto in Scorpio * Mars In Capricorn, it destroyed my health, many mental games, not beautiful, ended up when I bursted up with years of repressed anger, my health always suffer a lot with repressed anger. I studied Psychology many years then I droped out to follow my creative sunny and venusian tendencies on Design, but things there are so superficial, I miss studying Psychology.
@Nadia, I apologize for the FB snafu I was logged in to FB on my phone and I like to keep it separate from here. You have given me some of the greatest insights to my questions. I hope you don’t think I was trying to double dip through FB & Sasstrology. I respect your time, insights, and gifts. I hope you don’t think I was trying to take advantage. Someday, as a gift to myself, I hope to be able to purchase a report from you.
With the travel weirdness (I know it seems superficial, but it is sort of microcosm of my life.) , I don’t mind it (Sun conjunct Uranus.). My inconjunct between Mars & Pluto seems to be a wild card. I have made radical changes in belief systems (Mars 9th), and lived at many addresses. Profound changes at everyone.
Mars Rx is not so bad. Yes, I have had trouble asserting myself when I was younger, but I am sort of glad about that since my Mercury in Scorpio is smack dab in my 3rd house opposite my 9th house retrograde Mars. I do internalize many things, but I am mouthy about what I think is kind, humanitarian & sane. Yes, sometimes it comes out very awkwardly.
I thank you for addressing the Mars Rx with everything else. You have a gift and I appreciate you sharing it.
hello there,
I am very affected this dark energy. I am tired of being scorpio but I love to stay as scorpio
cuz I feel fulfilled in everything.
How would I minimize my bad traits. My libra partner feels more uncomfortable when
I am freak. . I guess he is struggling in our relationship. Im confused.
@Black Hand Ninja
Fear of/discomfort with your own power is very common with this aspect.
Mars Rx in the 1st House is your identity that wants to be expressed but is internalized due to the Rx. So you’re learning to express yourself against the pull of constant doubt. Throw in that inconjunct to 8th House Pluto and you have deep seated anxieties/boundary issues popping up and providing further blocks every time Mars tries to express itself. So…anger, frustration. More so because your Mars “knows” how powerful it can be. You really have two things to tackle: the Rx Mars and the inconjunct. Rx Mars is about learning to express your will in an appropriate way and that it’s ok to be yourself. That sounds really basic but we’re talking Mars in Aries so it’s primal. Ground zero stuff. With the inconjunct, you need to find that balance between expression (Mars) and the fears that pop up each time you express yourself.
Now, for those other aspects, the squares to Venus and Neptune can lead to some compulsive romantic attachments. But I would really make use of those trines and sextiles. Easy aspects can be the release of energy in this configuration. Pluto trining the AC and Venus can help you express your love/self-esteem with intensity and profound emotion. With Pluto in Scorpio it’s essential that what you express is the real thing so dealing with any 8th House issues (intimacy, sharing with others) will free that up even more.
@Tais
Knowledge is definitely your best outlet for this energy. The 6th and 10th Houses are both related to work (6th is daily work/service and the 10th is career) so using this energy in your work would be helpful. But there’s a reason you were drawn to design as well so it’s a matter of honouring your Venus and that Mars/Pluto trine. Sometimes it’s a juggling act to get all sections of the natal chart activated satisfactorily.
@fireopal09
Not at all. No worries and no need to apologize…I didn’t think you were trying to take advantage.
You are most welcome. I’m happy to provide insights. 🙂
@Marie
Scorpio intensity has two sides. Controlling (driven by fear) and healing (driven by the acceptance that you’ve already explored the depths so there is nothing to fear).
You haven’t described your challenging traits (not all Scorpios express themselves in exactly the same way) but I can only assume that they involve control/need for power. How you can minimize them depends greatly on what’s going on in your chart. But you can start by exploring Scorpio’s other side which is the understanding that you don’t need to strive for power because you already have what you need (Scorpio is an inherently powerful sign). That and the fact that Scorpio can be deeply compassionate and healing/protective towards their partners.
Grear article! I have Mars in Taurus bQ Pluto in Libra. I can’t say that I am very attuned to how this energy plays out for me, but maybe that is difficult as it is a minor aspect. I can’t say that I am much into controlling others, but I definitely fearful of losing control and don’t allow others to control me. As my Mars is conjunct my MC, I have definitely seen this willfulness play out in my career.
@ Ebstar…I can relate. I’m the same, but Mars in Taurus in the 1st house. I’m not so sure that I’m a Mars/Pluto person as I am just plain ole stubborn/willful. lol
Quiche…your words touched me. I can’t really explain it, but they did.
I have written and erased 3 posts in response…I think I’m just going to leave it right there. Have a good day!
Nadia…thanks for this article as while it may not apply directly to what I experience as a person natally, I’m seeing a Aqua Mars square Scorp in Pluto in the first house. He hasn’t projected anything just yet, but I’m waiting on it. lol I think that I have an advantage in knowing that it’s coming, though I don’t know WHEN or HOW it’s coming. lol
It has been soooo great to read this article and be able to relate to others with a Mars/Pluto aspect. I am learning more and more each day through astrology as to how my Mars @ 16 degrees Cancer in my 10th house squares my Pluto @ 9 degrees Libra in the 12th House (also conjunct my Libra Asc, have Taurus Sun, Cap Moon and Venus in Aries in the 7th house opposes Pluto).
I’ve been struggling this week to accept this placement in my natal chart as I feel terrible about the reactions others have towards me – especially in the workplace. Nothing is ever light with me and I truly do envy those who are light and fun. An astrologer once said to me that it depends where other people are at in their journey as to how they will react to me. I guess these people are those with a strong sense of self and are usually a lot old than me or have rather large egos.
I find myself wanting to apologise for the way I am which I believe would be giving my power over all together and probably not a healthy thing to do. It is my tendency to isolate although I am getting much better at getting out and about socially. I wondered if anyone had any advice on how I can learn to work with this placement?
Thanks so much for sharing everyone. Believe it or not I am a really happy and positive person and my life situation is really bright however this placement gets me down and i would love to learn some more strategies to help me through.
Great timing on this article! I’m trying to make sense of the most remarkable chart I’ve ever seen, which includes a Star of David, as well as a Yod and a T-square that both point to a Sun/South Node conjunction.
The T-square is formed from a Mars-Pluto opposition: Mars in Aries in the 5th, Pluto in Libra in the 11th. Both are square the Sun/S Node conjunct in Cancer in the 8th, and Sun/SN trines the Scorpio ascendant. (Gemini Saturn in the 8th too.)
His Pluto is also sextile a Venus/Merc conjunction straddling the Cancer/Leo cusp (9th), trine the Taurus Moon (7th), and has the generational sextile with Sag Neptune (late 1st). (The Yod to the Sun/SN is from Neptune and Aqu Jupiter on the IC.)
Anyway, that Mars-Pluto opposition really popped out at me immediately. The best I can come up with is that Mars/Aries/5th is about running around playing tag with the kids all day, followed by wall-banging sex all night, and Pluto/Libra/11th is about friends who are trying to change the world (socially/equality/civil and personal rights), and he’s right at the front leading the charge.
Both of these are true, and certainly there is some conflict between the “personal” and “social” lives here. But that interpretation also seems rather superficial, and for all his “dark magnetism” (which is the perfect term, he’s like a Plutonian dominant sex bomb on legs) he seems to be a remarkably stable, self-contained person. So what am I missing?!
Hello all…well I have to say this article was awesome. I wish I could show this to a few old boyfriends and say see look I was born this way lol…I have mars conjunct venus both sextile Pluto. To top it off my pluto is in the 8th house. which I think gives me even more dark energy. I definetly have some cotrol issues. Not so much that I want to control those around me, but I like maintaining self control. I can be very agressive but I prefer not to be. Just doesnt feel natural to me i guess its my Libra Sun Cancer Moon. I did have quite a few things happen in my child hood that has kinna left me with a,”trust no one” attitude. Or,”trust em as far as I can see em” attitude. lol I do adore strong consuming plutonian sex…lol…the less control I have the better…which is so weird…I guess with me I like to have all control…or none at all. Im still figuring myself out but this article was awesome 🙂
@Ms.Teeq1974
You’re welcome. 🙂
Preparation is half the battle, for sure.
To me, Mars in Aquarius is the drive for personal freedom. This might be amplified by his Pluto in Scorpio (fear that someone will try to take away his freedom).
@E-Bloom
Pluto in the 12th means the energy that pushes and amplifies your 10th House Mars will be largely subconscious. The 12th is “hidden”…the parts of us that we are not fully aware of. That Libra AC means it is important for you to be accepted/liked by others (hence the need to apologize) but that intense Mars/Pluto energy will put some people on edge.
Things to explore: fear (Pluto) of the unknown (12th House), the capacity to create (Pluto) your own reality (12th House). Pluto in this position can actually manifest your fears/doubts/anxieties into reality. There’s the conflict of your awareness of 12th House energies ( the fact that there is something else beyond what we can see, touch, etc.) versus your drive (Mars) to create a “home” (or at least acceptance from others…Cancer) in a conventional environment (10th House). One way to reconcile this conflict is to explore the polarity (opposite) point of Pluto. That’s your 6th House; work and service to others. You have a tremendous amount of power…is there some way you can direct that to help others out (doesn’t have to be at work…any environment that you feel comfortable in)?
@spark
You may not be missing anything. It is possible to integrate hard Mars/Pluto aspects and he may be one of those people who has done just that. If his Mars/Pluto are square his South Node then that opposition is his “skipped step”; the thing he needs to work on in order to evolve. With his Sun (conscious will) thrown in there he would have more clarity on these issues plus the drive to fix them. Chances are when he was younger there was a turning point that put him on the right path (the 8th House position of his Sun/South Node suggests some psychological issues that manifested at an early age (Cancer)).
Your interpretations of his Mars/Pluto positions are accurate. I would add this: Mars/Aries in the 5th is dominant ego/identity versus power from the collective (Pluto 11th house/Libra). The 11th is not only friends but “the group” in a larger sense….society. It can manifest as his position of power in society or society’s power structures pushing back on him.
@Kitty74
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Pluto in the 8th is definitely about control and personal boundaries…how much you’re willing to share with another. It can go both ways, as you pointed out.
Nadia,
Great Article. I’ve never had such a clear explaination of some of the aspects in my chart.
Mars @ 8 Pisces in 6th house
opposite
Pluto @ 3 Virgo in 12th house
Along with Aries Sun @ 23 in 8th house and Virgo rising in 12th.
Lots of energy, dark and otherwise, which is having a difficult time finding an outlet. Always and currently in a service business, but just not doing it for me lately. Bored and not creative enough. The same could be said for the last few relationships. Tough past 3 years for both, but I feel a change is in the air, just don’t know what that is yet. Current Mars retrograde seems to have brought alot of this to the fore front. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@Laura
Thank you! Clarity in my writing is one of my major goals.
Pluto in the 12th will make you very aware of the “other” that lies beyond conventional society. But there will be that drive to energize (Mars) your daily life on a mundane level (6th House) that is opposite from the 12th and its lack of boundaries.
I think your solution still lies in that 6th House. You just need to adjust how you energize it. Mars in Pisces is very creative so I’m not surprised that you’re bored. You need to find more creative (even artistic) ways to deliver that energy that you give to others (because the 6th House is about service). Remember that service to others can encompass many different things. Personal trainers, massage therapists, psychologists, art therapists…they all provide service to others. Having said this, I don’t know what the rest of your chart looks like so I can’t say too much about your relationships. An 8th House Sun would hook you into things like searching, research, uncovering hidden things and would also make you dissatisfied with surface associations. Uranus has probably entered your 8th House so a lot of buried issues will be stirred up.
You would also need to look at the position of your North and South Nodes (house and sign). Your North Node would give you more information on what path you should take to evolve. The sign and house position of your Venus and Moon could tell you where your creative focus lies and give you more information about your relationship needs.
On another note, transiting Neptune has probably entered your 6th House so that’s adding to the need for change. Neptune in Pisces is about realizing the dream and that’s what you’re aiming for now.
Nadia, thank you for your reply! I’m glad I wasn’t totally off-base, and I appreciate the clarification of the 5th/11th axis. It definitely “fits” within the pattern of his life.
Additionally, I’m not very well-versed on nodal/karma/past-life issues or how house placements affect the “timelines” of our lives, so I never would have made this connection:
“The 8th House position of his Sun/South Node suggests some psychological issues that manifested at an early age (Cancer).”
I had to chuckle. How does this work for you? Pluto transited conjunct his ascendant 3 times (D->R->D) when he was 14-15 years old. At the exact same time, Neptune was bouncing around conjunct his North Node. And right in the middle of that mess, Chiron transited the Sun/S Node 3 times (D->R->D). Its first direct pass was exactly conjunct the Sun about a week before Pluto was exactly conjunct the ASC on its final pass.
Yeah, that was an interesting time. 🙂
Thanks again.
This totally discribes the relationship I´m in.
My boyfreind has mars/pluto conjunct (mars 0 libra, Pluto 29 Virgo,) sextile venus in scorpio, which is conjunct jupiter in scorpio and venus opposite saturn.
My sun is conjunct his saturn , opposite his venus, moon conjuct his venus and opposite saturn.
With all this Pluto saturn power he has over me its been an extremley destructive, highly erotic , emtionally deep and at the same time the highest growth and learn experience of my life.
With saturn in a clinch with my moon and sun we some how can´t seem to get away from each other.
But I realize now that the “glue” of saturn holding us togehter seems to be a karmic nesscesity in order to let Pluto transform as both ultimatly for the best. (that what I´m fighting for! 😉
Hi, nice to end up here.
Great article.
I have the Sun in pisces in the 12th house trine Pluto in scorpio in the 8th. Pluto makes an opposition to Mars in taurus in the 2nd. Bdw, the aspect is exact. I know, powerful energy, I can say that!
Mars from the 2nd is sextile the Sun in 12th. Basically, they are all connected, in different ways.
Also, my Sun in the 12th is sextile Neptune which conjuncts the midheaven, sextiles Pluto and is trine to Mars.
Could somebody talk about all this energy? For years now ive been addressing my own personal energy, my own deep resources, my anger, my personal power for transformation, the life and death force inside myself, my passion, and my deep desires within, with the intention to recognize them each time better and more clearly. All these paths lead me every time more deeply to my own true self and soul…
Ive done a lot of healing as well, which has helped me tremendously. I truly recommend energetic healing for everybody, but for pluto mars individuals, this could be of real help.
With this amount of Pluto energy i can say ive been like Persephone kidnapped in hell, and basically then transformed not only into the queen of the underwolrd, but transformed to Hades himself.
What i can say, based upon my own personal experience to all people which have Mars-Pluto contacts, planets in the 8th, planets in the 12th, 4th… or just a person who wants to work with pluto in any house… as well as contacts of pluto with any other planet that is making him suffer in some way is the following:
Suffering with Plutonian energy is deep, I think everybody here can relate to this. This is not only because of the pain of Pluto itself represents about trauma and so on, but because Pluto has learned to resist, to survive.
When we suffer, we are resisting. Suffering is resistance. Suffering is a product of something that we are resisting. Whenever you are having difficult emotions related to this energy, ask this question to yourself: What am I resisting right now? You will clearly see that you are resisting something.
Let it free…. allow it. Dont try to control it, manipulate it, proyect it. Just ask that powerful question with your heart, and not your mind. Transformation will start to unfold alone…. Pluto really wants to transform, thats its mission! When we resist (pain, hostility, rage, anger, profound solitude and sadness) we are telling this to a part of ourselves: ¨You are not welcome here, you shouldnt be here in the first place, so i will reject you, disappear again…. leave, i dont like you, you are ugly ¨ But do you really think it disappears, that it leaves and never comes back?
That energy will find its way to catch you up, when least expected….and you know perfectly what im talking about (mars-pluto individuals, 12th emphasis, 8th and 4th as well)
That is what my personal experience tought me. This allowance, this welcoming, this loving energy that lets all these feelings arise and make them feel at home for once, is transformation in itself, IS healing.
You dont need to do much! We get so mixed up with analyzing our problems, the why, the where, the who….
Its simple, try it! Its done such an amazing healing for my life.
And this is the most important thing: When ever you want to try this, do it, with Love.
From the core of your being, love this part that has suffered so much, love this part that has been rejected so much in the past, it matters where it comes from because knowing the root is important, believe me i have done so much of this. But then, just drop all of that. Your healing begins when you allow it to just BE, without judgment. If that is pain, ok that is pain, dont cover it with anger…. if that is anger, ok…. dont cover it with hostility, if its hostility, ok…dont cover it by manipulating the moment or a person, that plutonian tool just makes you more miserable in the end, and frustrated. Allow what you feel, and feel it with your whole blood, body, mind heart and soul, thats the key. Healing just happens…. believe me. Just allowing it…. the rest happens by its own.
I hope this helps anybody who´s having trouble with this energy. Ive been in hell, ive been in heaven, and i can say this: darkness its just waiting to be recognized and illuminated.
What is light without darkness? Not much.
If you have the power to go beyond, go for it… but keep it on down there when you actually are there, but with your heart. The reward is the most healing and blessed experience of them all: Knowing our true self. That for me is freedom. We have tremendous power for transformation! Lets use this huge potential we were born with to help ourselves evolve better and much more faster!! : )
I send my love everybody!
Any comment would be very appreciated about my own energies.
Thank you in advanced.
Corina,
Argentina
Corina that’s lovely! Me too I have been finding that coming from a loving heart space is helping me release resistance. I have pluto opp mars. oof. (Mars is in house 3/aries, along with jupiter and chiron. My moon is in pisces also house 3; pluto is in house 9/virgo; sun in gem/5). i definitely have a fear of power being taken away from me, being imprisoned for being dangerous for whatever reason, but also that my power is so overwhelming that I can’t use it. It feels like I am fighting my fears so much I don’t see the life around me. I want to sing and to act and to do healing seminars in front of live audiences but am too scared/guilty to do it. I want to be in a loving relationship but am really good at staying single ;p I totally understand the need to do things. If I don’t get enough exercise I get really antsy. Great blog!!
@Ms. Naida Gilchrist:
OK… so Taurus sun 1 degree and Taurus moon 2 deg., with Aries rising and cusp (4/22) (incl. Mercury)… North node and Neptune in Sag 6th house… With Uranus and Pluto both in Libra (but Uranus at 25 deg. in 7th house, and Pluto 4 deg. in 8th). The divider with the arrow points right at Capricorn. You would think a very lonely but social type? Yes.
Then check this… Venus and Jupiter in Pisces (2nd and 3rd house, respectively), and Mars and Saturn both in Cancer (11th house) at 01″ and 02″ (3 deg. apart!!!).
My take it– There’s no wonder I have been scammed so many times by my unbridled focus towards making money faster than the average Joe, and trusting and trusting when I only had the vision but not the info to back up. I wish I could pay you, I guess I am really asking for a juicy response here to help me.
I am healing now from losing my entire inheritance to my foreign boyfriend, as well as other scams I eluded to. I am facing bankruptcy at the moment though I am great at making money. It just goes to show, right there in my chart. Obviously I am a public, humanitarian type. I do stand up comedy and blog, and sing gospel professionally. But always fall for the chronically or irrevtrieveably unavailable types, whom I then put up on a pedestal and revere, feeding my pain and isolation, which leads to instability, which my Cancer or Pisces abhors! (Right?) I try to “garden” these guys, to get them to grow, flower, and to be with me.
I am such a good friend, I don’t know why I get lost out in these outer planetary dimensions, and forsake those close to me and unfaltering in their love, to go pursue the yonder.
Thank you so much. I have described my entire chart. Libra (8th house), Scor. (7th house), Sag. (6th house) all are retrograde
@Ms. Naida Gilchrist:
OOPS! I think I made a mistake. I counted my birth sign as first house and went clockwise, and I think I see that I needed to go counter-clockwise, I’m sorry.
If counter-clockwise, Pluto is in the 6th house, the 8th has Neptune and north node in Sag., Saturn and Mars so close to each other in the 3rd, Jupiter in 11th, and Venus (Pisces) and Mercury (Aries) in 12th house. Wow. Still I can surmise what I wrote earlier. Agree? My obsession about communication with the unavailable men, not quite getting it right, and replaying the tapes in my head… trying again in my own battle of self in love… Thank You! I am really ready to move into new “ownership.”
@headinhands – Same here. I though it was my Scorpio Rising and I also have Neptune in the 1st (conjunct to the rising by 3). I always felt invisible but I know now that people stay away from me. Mars in Sag (2nd) square Pluto in Virgo (10th). People do resist me and I always wondered why – even I thought I try to be impartial and fair and helping (Virgo Sun) – still it seems like people resist just to resist me! Weird! I am super good at amputating any wrong-doers from my life and never looking back. I don’t forget and I make sure they are gone, gone, gone!
I also have the Sun/Pluto conjunction (exact at 24 in 10) as someone else mentioned. I know this is also a very powerful aspect that chills other people. The weird thing is that inside I don’t feel powerful with this ability. But somehow it comes out and others see it. It is a challenge for sure. I also have Mars Square Uranus and Sun.
Geez, Scorpio Rising, Sun/conjuntion Pluto, Mars Sqaure Pluto. Yeah, I am definately Plutonian! No one gets me!
Mars(Capricorn) square pluto(libra)… the Capricorn Mars control the libra pluto pretty good. I don’t get angry at all. But I am very, very jealous. I don’t handle deep relationship well ’cause I have Gem moon and Sag venus, I need a lot of freedom in a relationship and I will give my partner a lot of personal space too.
I’m a Leo all the way, with the Sun, Mercury and Venus corresponding, while my Ascendant, Mars and Moon belong to Taurus. You take into consideration the Scorpio Mars-Pluto Opposition and it makes for an ill-harmonious, confusing, *volatile* and *PASSIONATE* mix. It feels at times, as if I have duel personalities warring with each other for domination, between the progressive volatile passion of fire and the receptive sheer depth of emotion of water. Exercise is my saving grace, as it exhausts the body and the massive reserves of corresponding energy, providing a sense of peace. I advise this to all afflicted with the Mars-Pluto pairing: Exercise will calm and temper the friction generated between these two planets, and for us, those who know, THAT is a treasure more valuable than gold. As difficult as the Scorpio Mars-Pluto aspects may be, when harnessed and taken control of to your benefit, and the benefit of others, there is no combination more beautiful, more powerful, more enduring, nor worth having.
“There is no end, there is no beginning, there is only the infinite passion and vitality of life.”
– Federico Fellini
This is a really interesting topic. I totally identify with being obsessive and fundamentally incapable of trust. I have Mars conjunct Pluto in Scorpio in the 8th house. Any ideas about how the conjunct would express itself in the 8th house? It always seemed like an odd aspect in my chart since I’m a Sagittarius with a Pisces rising and Gemini moon. The only scorpio in my chart is Mars and Pluto.
