Valentine’s Day Astrology Forecast 2012: Power, Magnetic Attraction and Letting Go

This Valentine’s Day could get interesting. Certain signs will have to deal with issues of power, magnetic attraction and loving someone while setting them free. Other signs will experience a unique opportunity to heal their heartbreak and finally release relationship disappointments. For everyone, letting go will be crucial. Read on to see what the day of love has in store for you.

Cardinal Signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn

You’ll feel the sizzling influence of Venus in Aries. This energy is about loving first and asking questions later. Aries is a highly independent sign, so with the tough aspect (square) Venus will be forming to authoritative Pluto in Capricorn, this will cramp her style, especially since she’s coming down from the high generated by her union (conjunction) to unpredictable Uranus in Aries.

This could mean that a sudden, wildly inappropriate encounter (Venus-Uranus in Aries) might hit a reality check (Pluto in Capricorn). Or the need to have what and whom you want will be restricted by limits. Rules, restrictions and authority (Pluto in Capricorn) will challenge instinctive passion (Venus in Aries). On the other hand, if you try to impose your own controls (Pluto in Capricorn) on an exciting relationship, you’ll get tangled up in power struggles instead of a hot tryst. Which would you rather have?

The takeaway message for Cardinal signs is this: pushing to have things your way will fan the flames of conflict, not passion. You won’t get everything you want, but you can still enjoy Venus in Aries’ spicy energy if you’re willing to give a little ground. And for those brave enough to partake, Venus (love) challenged by Pluto (sex) can make things unnervingly intense. Those with planets or angles in the early degrees (0-8) of the Cardinal signs will be especially strongly impacted.

Fixed Signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius

The Sun in freedom loving Aquarius will be challenged (squared) by the Moon in possessive Scorpio. The need (Moon) for control and deep intimacy (Scorpio) will be confronted by expressions of detachment. You may want to spend the evening in an intense, soulful union while your partner wants to go out with friends. Or someone may want sex (Scorpio) while you want things to stay platonic (Aquarius). But the other side of this influence is the electric tension generated by the square between male (Sun) and female (Moon) energies.

First of all, here’s what not to do: restrict your partner’s freedom. You just won’t win, and you could trigger a rupture because trapped Aquarius will up and leave rather abruptly. Alternatively, make sure the person you’re with isn’t asking for more than you can give. Rather than swimming in Scorpio’s shadow side (knee-jerk control and paranoia), try using its deeply transformative energy to change the dynamics. If your partner wants to do their own thing, let him. If you don’t want to give what someone else is asking for, set your boundaries. Needs (Moon) will not be fully satisfied. But those who approach this conflict creatively (Aquarius) can still have fun with the magnetic attraction that will be generated. If you have planets or angles between 20-26 degrees of the Fixed signs, you’ll feel this influence most strongly.

Mutable Signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

Valentine’s Day is prime time for many people to dwell on what went wrong in past relationships. It’s an especially difficult time of year, since the media seems intent on cramming the idea of “romantic bliss” down your throat.

Mutable signs are in luck, because there’s some unique energy coming up that will allow you to float past all this. Neptune, Mercury and Chiron will form a triple conjunction in Pisces. Mercury and Chiron will encourage you to communicate (Mercury) your hurts (Chiron) about past (or current) relationships. Neptune (Pisces’ ruler) will add an ultra-potent shot of healing. Yes, Neptune can be about romantic dreams but it also dissolves what it touches. That includes pain, grudges, bitterness, anger and vulnerability. The key with this influence is to communicate, even if that means writing it down for yourself. But if you’re up for discussing it, you’ll find someone who’s willing to listen. Once you open up, the energy of this day will allow you to release things very quickly. Then you can move forward, as you forgive the past and gain faith in the future. Sounds like a pretty nice Valentine’s Day gift! Those with planets and angles between 0-4 degrees of the Mutable Signs will feel this energy most strongly.

  1. Thanks for this lovely post. I’m Gemini with Virgo ascendant (and Venus in Cancer a 1°17′). So I really think I fit your description. And I hope the “mutable sign” healing will take place. I’ve been suffering a lot – and still suffer – about a relationship I ended last year.
It would be nice to let go and lift this curse up for good.

  2. @Nadia Gilchrist
I enjoy how you have been including the degrees of planets most affected in your writings. Most helpful!

  3. My boyfriend’s Cancer sun is 9 degree and his Libra rising is 3 degrees. My Aquarius sun is 21 degrees and leo rising is 19 degrees. I will be out of town this weekend for my birthday, but last weekend he came home from the bar talking about a hot girl. He said he didn’t get her number, but that he is a man and there is temptation everywhere when you work at a popular bar. He is lucky to have me though, and he tells me often. There is honesty in our relationship, but my initial reaction to this article was panic and paranoia. I hope he’d do the right thing if temptation revisited his bar this weekend, but how do you think I should feel about all this? Let whatever happens, happen? I’m very loyal in my relationships, so I’d like some advice. Thank you very much! Also, I really appreciate the degrees you’re providing as well

  4. @no-perspiration

Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a fantastic time.
I see things are still going well with your Cancer. Its good you both can be open with each other about things. Just make sure you share how you feel, too! Its totally valid to feel a little off when a man says there is temptation everywhere. But, as you say, he is so lucky to have you. And, if he is a smart guy he will remember that while you are away!

    @Nadia Gilchrist
This article is so on point about LETTING GO.

  5. @Diana,
    You’re welcome!
Mercury/Chiron will form a very soothing trine to your Venus so that should enable some major healing/compassion.

  6. @NovLady
Glad you find it helpful. 🙂

  7. @no-perspiration,
Well, you have the right idea with letting things happen and trusting. I know that’s not much comfort, especially when you are concerned about your boyfriend cheating. But realistically, trusting is the best thing you can do. He is communicating with you so that’s a very good sign. What sign are his Venus/Mars in?

I can’t say what will happen without seeing your boyfriend’s chart, your chart and your two charts together. Remember that these articles describe general influences. So much depends on what else is happening in your boyfriend’s chart.

  8. I’m an Aquarius with Scorpio ascendant with my natal moon in Leo. I think this will all will make this transit felt stronger for me. Not just in romance areas (no relationships).

  9. Nadia,

Thanks for the response. He said he’s never cheated before and he’s the typical “nice guy finishes last”, but I set examples of respect and honesty in our relationship. I tell him things he might not even care to know, but I would want to know if the shoes were reversed. His Venus is in Leo, Mars in Virgo. My Venus is in Capricorn, Mars in Libra. If I base those off of the Venus-mars compatibilities, we’re well off, but in our composite chart, we have mars square neptune, mars conjunct saturn – in the first house. “One feels loving while the other feels distant.” is something I’ve picked up on before. Me being the loving, but he needs closure from a relationship that ended 2 yrs ago bc of the girl’s death :/ Oh, and our venus aspects are all good ones. I think my paranoia is stemmed from my past, which I keep consciously trying to overcome. Like I said, our communication is great, but I don’t want him to feel threatened or that he couldn’t tell me everything. I want him to be able to tell me everything.

  10. NovLady,

Thank you! Big 3-0 😛 I wonder how this affects my chart. Everything moves like 10 degrees or something? My second 30-year adventure?

  11. @no-persperation

Nice! What a special one! Have you read up on Saturn Returns? I am sure you are going through your Saturn Return like I have been. Its a big deal. A potential inner shift.

Rock on! Have a great birthday!

  12. @Molly
Whatever houses the transits will be hitting is where you’ll feel these influences. Keep in mind the influences will be strongest between the degrees I mentioned in my article.

  13. @no-perspiration
Your composite Mars square Neptune/conjunct Saturn is an interesting mix. Reality (Saturn) versus fantasy (Neptune). Saturn keeps expectations grounded but that square to Neptune simultaneously leads to disappointment. Try to focus on what you know for sure (Saturn) as opposed to the fearful fantasies (square Neptune). Also…compare your natal chart to the composite chart. I’m wondering if the composite Mars square Neptune hits any sensitive points in your chart. This would increase your fears/doubts but it would be the energy of the relationship as opposed to your boyfriend’s actions.

  14. LOL…I only wish I’d read this article BEFORE yesterday. All good things happen in their own timing though, right? I experienced the cardinal and mutable transits exactly as you’ve described. I actually have found alot of sore spots over the past few days that are going to require some healing and I’m in the right place mentally and emotionally to do so. I’m very optomistic about it all and have a few potent “aha!’s” to help move on from the past for good as well as make some solid decisions on which doors to open in the future.

Very insightful post Nadia and as always, you’re right on target!

My sun is 4 degrees in Pi. SMH I guess now is as good as of a time as any to get this all taken care of.

  15. @Ms.Teeq1974
    Thanks. 🙂
You should start to feel some of that Neptune energy around May when it hits 3 degrees Pisces. Should be interesting to see where it takes you.

  16. Nadia,

Well, even though nothing happened and him and I have been VERY romantic with each other (yay) I did feel paranoia coming on and I think it was triggered by my bf’s ex girlfriend who has been increasingly attending his bar. I saw her on the 10th then on Monday the 13th at his bar. Both nights he wasn’t working, but the way she blatantly flaunted another man at his work without him there while they were dating…. I’m surprised she is even welcomed back to be honest. He’s still nice to her, but it just eeks at me. I’ve asked to at least be introduced, but he won’t do it. Anyway, outside of that issue, I’ve consciously been tightening the screws in my head to avoid him seeing my paranoia. I failed a tad bit, but more like “that’s my man. have some respect” kinda way of thinking. Although, like I said, these past few days have been awesome! He indirectly told me he loved me… haha thanks Valentine’s Day! But, I was looking at my Mars aspects… which are in the third house in Libra. I need all or nothing in relationships, I “enjoy arguing”… I don’t fully agree with that, but I am older now and I am protective of my loved ones. I have Mars conjunct pluto and saturn and square venus. I have spoken about this before… when you have a venus in cap and mars in libra…. it’s a love n hate thing within yourself and within your relationships. I’ve spent some time this past year really honing in on that. I don’t want to be looked at as overly passive, but I don’t like getting mean. I don’t even like to fight! I always prefer to keep my voice calm and my debates democratic. I’m just glad I played it cool and him and I are closer. If something did happen with him I bet he played it responsibly. I mean, I did talk about this article on the 9th lol
