Love Horoscope for the Week of January 1

Happy New Year, everyone! This may mark the beginning of a new calendar year, but as you know, in astrology the cosmic deck is always being reshuffled. The first week of this year offers up some pretty decent transits for making sense of your life and the lives of your loved ones, and some help with making your love life better (or getting one in the first place if you’re lacking one).

The biggest and most important of the aspects happening this week isn’t exact until Saturday, but it projects an influence over all of this week (and all of next week as well). Mars conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio is potentially a juggernaut of energy to help you achieve your goals. It’s also likely to make for general restlessness and possibly an uncomfortable increase in your sex drive. Choose your targets wisely and apply caution, because it is possible to overdo things under this influence.

The latter part of the week is a good time to find a new and different way to express your thoughts. Mercury trine Uranus will help you find ways to communicate more effectively and will help you come up with new ways to address your daily life. One caution though: Mercury loves saying things but isn’t always terribly aware of the consequences. Mercury trine Uranus may help you find fresh vocabulary, but this week Mercury is square Chiron. Chiron aspects, even the relatively good ones, can trip off all sorts of psychological issues and old traumas — sometimes ones you didn’t even realize were there. This means that your pithy observations may unintentionally hurt someone’s feelings. Step carefully when discussing matters of love and intimacy.

This caution particularly applies to the weekend dating outlook, especially on Friday and Saturday when the Moon is in Virgo. Virgo loves nothing better than to be helpful and to heal someone, but especially when there is a Mercury Chiron aspect happening Virgo doesn’t always realize that a scalpel is also a knife.

Avoid those pitfalls, however, and the weekend holds a lot of romantic potential. Mars conjunct Jupiter (in Scorpio, no less!) acts as a serious amplifier to the sex drive. The urge to merge is increased even more by the approaching Venus sextile Mars and Jupiter (exact next week). Venus in Capricorn is past the chilling effects of Saturn in Capricorn now, and is ready to shine her practically-grounded delights.
