Love Horoscope for the Week of February 10

weeklyloveFirst, a word about Valentine’s Day for those of you who have a troubled love life, a less-than-perfect love life, or no love life at all: it’s easy to get dispirited about these things on February 14th, which has been commercialized to death in much the same manner that Christmas Day has. But just because Christmas Day has been subverted into a spending orgy with an emphasis on BE MERRY OR ELSE is no reason to give up on the basic ideals of hope and faith and caring that Christmas Day originally represented. Likewise, don’t beat yourself up too badly for the state of your love life on Valentine’s Day. It’s okay to be cynical — and sometimes it’s pretty unavoidable — but ultimately Love is bigger than just you or me, and it’s certainly bigger than just one day. So breathe deeply and you’ll get through it just fine.

Why am I starting this week’s forecast like that? Because this year there is a Full Moon on Valentine’s Day, and a Full Moon often brings out the less noble and constructive of emotions even at the best of times… even when it doesn’t fall on a day where the lovelorn and the still-seeking are made to feel like the last kid picked for the team. Just to make it worse, a Full Moon in Leo has a tendency to be oversensitive, and having Mars sextile the Sun and Moon just boosts the potential for hurt feelings. Of course, for some, it means a more spectacular Valentine’s Day than usual in a good way too, but many of us won’t be facing that prospect. Let the happy couples go cuddle in their corners, I say! It’s the rest of us who need the help and guidance!

Now having said that, regardless of your plans, this week calls for more advance thought and preparation than usual, regardless of the state of your love life. Mercury is retrograde, and it stationed conjunct Neptune in Pisces, so the chances of plans and communications going astray is already high enough, but is also compounded by emotionality and fuzzy thinking. In other words: if you have to make reservations at a restaurant, reserve a bouquet at the florist’s, or even just book a meeting with your boss or find a ride to your Book Club, get those plans nailed down now… waiting until the 13th just won’t do, especially when you consider that the 13th is the day Mercury stumbles back into Aquarius, all unaspected and not knowing what to do with itself.

Fortunately, by the end of the week, we will have the chance to thoughtfully analyze what went wrong over the previous week and find new and smarter ways to make things better. That, and Venus is climbing towards the sextile with Saturn, so there’s still hope to salvage something both sensible and durable (yet emotionally comforting) from the whole mess.

Oh, and of course… Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you. I may not know and/or love all of you in person, but if you took the time to read my forecast, hey… it’s a start, right? Where do I send your flowers…?
