Love Horoscope for the Week of January 6

weeklyloveThe first full week of January is often a bit of a drag. Holidays are over, and everyone is back at work and feeling the weight of another year at the grindstone ahead of them. Compounding that feeling of early January dread this year is that we started out with a particularly peril-laden New Moon, implying all sort of tension for the month ahead.

Relax. Keep your wits about you and you’ll come out ahead of the pack (whether that pack is “everyone at work” or simply “your loved one and his or her issues”). Mercury is a major player this week, as it makes a number of helpful aspects on its way out of Capricorn and into Aquarius. That’s a good thing, because the week is dominated by Mars square Jupiter, and the logical approach will be desperately needed at times.

Monday brings us Mercury sextile Saturn in the Signs of Capricorn and Scorpio. Put those two together and you’ve pretty much got the definition of “serious-minded.” This may not sound like the most delightful romantic news possible, but with Mars still in Libra and Venus retrograde, you’ll get your best results with your head rather than your heart when it comes to your love life. Venus retrograde has a way of making old issues and old flames turn up again, and Mars in Libra has passion but often doesn’t know where to point it. A little deliberation can keep you from going astray — or just doing something plain stupid — with your affections.

The brain vs. heart issues come together (literally) on Tuesday with Mercury conjunct Venus. Since Venus is retrograde and Mercury isn’t, it’s tempting to say that Team Brain will win out, but don’t be too sure: Mars square Jupiter is almost exact now, and impulsiveness can be hard to avoid. Mercury conjunct Venus is beneficial for creative projects, romantic pursuits, and writing love letters, so if you can find a way to work with the impulsiveness in the air, you love life could come out ahead.

Mars square Jupiter is exact on Wednesday. Jupiter is strong in Cancer, Mars is scattered in Libra, and that all adds up to the romantic equivalent of the classic “chicken with its head cut off” approach among those closest to you. On top of all that, the Moon is Void of Course in Aries for a large portion of the day. You may have a strong urge to take some corrective measures in your personal life, and there’s a good change that your efforts will add up to nothing, or go astray. Keep calm and remind yourself that Rome wasn’t built in a day… and in fact, it even took about a week to burn it down. Your best approach might be to aim for smaller and less sweeping changes than either of those two extremes.

If things blow up between you and a loved one mid-week, the weekend brings opportunities to patch things up. Saturday sees Venus sextile Pluto, which is an excellent time to do repair work on your love life. Also, Mercury enters Aquarius on Saturday as well, which will pump new life and creativity into your thoughts and communications. After all, if you can’t play nice, you can at least produce a decent apology afterwards…
