Poll: How do you feel about the Sun sign compatibility posts?

May 8, 2009 by Jeffrey Kishner

I’ve been having Fern Feto Spring write basic Sun sign compatibility posts, with the idea of her covering every single combination sorted by gender, i.e., Aries man/Taurus woman as well as Taurus man/Aries woman. (Forgive the heterocentricity, I’m perfect willing to include gay couples at a later date.)

However, her posts so far have elicited absolutely no comments, so it’s difficult for me to determine whether there’s reader interest. Certainly googlers search for this stuff all the time, but what do Sasstrology readers want?

Please answer the poll below, and leave any in-depth responses in the comments section.

Thanks!

For beginners they are fine, but for intermediates they are inconsequential.

  2. Veronica says:

Just a quick comment about different compatability combos for our beloved GBLT community. I have seen other sites use the terms masculine/feminine vs. man/woman. There are fewer couples excluded this way.

  3. me, I agree. Do you think more in-depth posts would be more appealing to intermediates?

Veronica, I need to balance “search engine juice” — which means titling posts like “Aries man Scorpio woman” to get more visitors — with LGBTQ-inclusiveness. As I wrote, if the series continues I’m perfectly willing to cover all combos for same-sex couples. But I don’t necessarily think that same-sex couples always break down into the more “masculine” and more “feminine” partner — that just buys into the gender dichotomy. (Pardon me if I’m using the wrong terminology — I didn’t major in gender and sexuality studies.)

Sun signs by them selves hold no interest for me.

Maybe you can find a way to include risings as well… Something to add some dimension, ya know?

  5. PensiveGemini says:

yea i agree with Eagle… even sun and moon combos would be really interesting… even if only describing a person as opposed to a couple… and they are also being delivered too slowly… with 12 signs and 12 different versions of each, at a pace of 1 post a week, that means its going to take 144 weeks to get through all combos… I dont’ know if I could wait that long to get to Aquarius…

  6. pensivegemini, if I had the funds to have a writer churn out every combination in one sitting and publish them all at once, I would, but I don’t. I could even do it myself, but it would still take a long time.

I think this is a case of not being able to satisfy everyone all the time. There are many different levels of knowledge among readers. If I write for advanced readers then newbies won’t understand. If I write for newbies, advanced readers might get bored. I think the only solution is to mix it up.

    So mix it up then.

    anyways, were was I ?

    Oh yeah. :)

What would be really interesting is to use
the woman’s sun sign and the man’s moon sign.

  9. PensiveGemini says:

I am always down for mixing it up! sounds good to me…

  10. Christine says:

    Jeff,

I agree with “me.” I think Sun Sign compatibility can be searched for with abundant results on the internet and there is an entire section dedicated to Sun Sign compatibility on the forum for personal advice and discussion. It seems that readers can get a general feel for the different qualities of the signs to piece together the compatibility portion by themselves–without an astrologer. What would be interesting are more specific placements. As far as synastry goes, I personally would like to read about house overlays, effects of asteroids, what marks spiritual compatibility/connections, or what marks I-hate-you-and-can’t-get-along-with-you-but-I-must-be-with-you connections. It’s hard to find quality information of that nature on the web or even in the book stores I’ve visited. Whatever the case is, it’s important, I feel, to provide information that provides insight into the deeper, psychological underpinnings of some astrological things that aren’t available on the web (especially since this is where I’m assuming most of the members get their information). When deciding if something should be posted, I feel it’s important to determine two things: can it be easily searched for on the web and can readers understand the concept easily? I mean, one example is this. I had been searching for valuable insight on Mars in Pisces for the longest, and I found the only satisfying description here on this site! (I soon found others in books, but still!)

  11. Christine, thanks for your feedback. You make some very valid points. I agree that there are many websites that already feature Sun sign compatibility descriptions, so why do we need another? — except that I want to capture some of that traffic. At the same time, I do want Sasstrology to be deeper than that. I’m trying to find some balance between depth and accessibility. If I may use an example, I posted four parts of a series on Juno, and after the first one, there seemed to be little involvement from readers — so I questioned if that many Sass readers really want to know about asteroids. Anyways, the current plan is for Fern to write Venus/Mars compatibility posts — a topic that is astrologically deeper but still something an intermediate student can understand.

  12. Christine says:

I think that Venus/Mars combos are a good middle ground, Jeff — for the beginner, the intermediate student and even the more advanced students can extract additional insight by the certain wording of something. Does that make sense?

  13. bg5 says:

While they are a bit basic, I still read these types of posts. You never know where some new insight may crop up. I haven’t commented because I’m waiting for a post with a sign relevant to me to come up but I definitely noticed.

  14. jon says:

i like the venus/mars or sun moon comparasins best’st :-)

  15. jon, we’ll probably run through the venus/mars comparisons as long as I see reader interest
