Gemini Full Moon and the Auto Industry Bailout
December 10, 2008 by Jeffrey Kishner
This is going to be a whopper of a Full Moon on Friday. The Sun-Moon opposition is part of a mutable Grand Cross, with Mars conjunct Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Gemini, Uranus in Pisces and Saturn in Virgo, all within three degrees of being in hard aspect (square or opposition) to each other. In addition, Mercury enters Capricorn on this day, conjoining Pluto. Within the context of the Saturn-Uranus opposition (which is going on through 2010), this Full Moon will be quite a trigger … especially with energizing Mars in the mix.
The opposition between conservative Saturn and rebellious Uranus is full of tension. The forces of the status quo are at odds with the forces of innovation and change. Recently, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman wrote about the U.S. auto industry bailout. Detroit symbolizes the old guard, while there are companies elsewhere in the world that are doing truly forward-moving work with electric cars and battery-charging and -swapping stations. Eventually, the pace of technological progress will be so staggering that the structures (Saturn) to which are are accustomed will have to break down. Yes, these changes will result in the displacement of blue collar workers (Virgo). However, there will always be a need for people in the auto industry. They will just have to adapt (Pisces) to change (Uranus) if they are to survive.
The Sun-Mars conjunction in Sagittarius shows that the focus of the proposed bailout is on the long-term viability of these corporations, and that the decisions of our politicians will have an impact on these businesses. Our energies (Sun, Mars) are invested in the Big Picture (Sag), but can we trust that “far-reaching government oversight” will be adequate to address the problem? Ultimately, these companies need to “carry out aggressive reorganization plans” (Pluto in Capricorn) if they are to thrive in this economy.
Meanwhile, the “light” is pointing at the fourth axis of this Grand Cross, in Gemini.
- The health of the U.S. auto industry ultimately depends on the wording of a bill.
- There are two sides to the issue. On the one hand, not bailing out these companies could result in a worsened economy. But if we do bail them out, are we not just “rewarding bad business practice“?
- Oh, yeah … and Gemini rules cars.

Are we rewarding bad business practices of the automakers? In the broadest sense, no.
Industry, after industry are falling prey to the deflation of the artificial money supply created by lenders eager to capture profits on the earnings of the future. They lent money to anyone who wanted to buy a house, often at high interest rates. When Big Oil was allowed to make record breaking profits by jacking up the price of fuel, it stole money out the pockets of the middle class. As the price of transportation of goods and services increased, the price of every consumer goods increased as well. Eventually the increase in transportation costs out stripped the middle class’s ability to pay, and people fell behind in their bills, including their mortgages and now their credit card debt. As people defaulted on loans, the profits lenders were hoping to realize vanished. Since the money wasn’t coming in, there is no money to lend. Since many businesses depend on borrowing money to finance their operations, they are hurting now since it is difficult to borrow. It is a big mess. With Pluto now in Capricorn, the threat of too many bankruptcies bringing us to a Depression is very real. Can the government do it all? No. Should our government do everything it can. I say yes.
Bailing these companies out isn’t going to help in the long run if the money isn’t going towards innovation for the future. Not only are things falling apart because of a hurting economy, but people also realize that change needs to happen. If things are truly going to work out in the end, people need to move forward. They need to take this bailout and turn it into something lasting.
This ain’t got nothing to do with cars, but this Full Moon is in my 10th house of career, and this whole grand cross is stimulating my Pluto-Venus opposition. Venus is my MC ruler. What’s gonna happen to me, Jeff?
