while i have a particular soft spot for vampire stories, i should correct that True Blood is amazing tv for *any genre. it is all you want in entertainment, and i’ll see for literature as i’m going to start reading the books.

i’ve always been totally into vampires. just as fiction, irl i dont believe in psychic vampires or the whole fashion-cult thing.
i tried to read twilight but as i flipped through it at the bookstore all i read was blah blah blahh. it was so corny and cloying i had to put it down. i’m very sensititve to a novelist’s tone of voice and Meyer’s had that literalism that when translated from idea to literature doesn’t suit my personal tastes. like she idealizes her characters too much and the whole thing is disney minus the personality.

vampires are edgy..but what i can like about a PG version like Rice’s Interview with a Vampire (one of my faves ever) is its idiosyncrasy. Twilight didn’t have that to me, the characters unsympathetic, uninteresting. no bite.

i LOVE True Blood on the other hand. to me that has all the elements of an amazing vampire story. unique, edgy, characters u can connect to.

Update: Patrick Watson has written about Pattinson and Stephanie Meyer at the Celebrity Astrology Blog. Key points: Pattinson is undergoing a Neptune transit to his Sun (projection!) and that Meyer's inspiration coincided with several eclipses.

I know the series, I liked it though I don’t consider it overly ambitious literature (I have Neptune Mercury to get away with it, ha!).

First thing, it’s hard to discuss this phenomenon unless you actually read the books.
It’s not completely as it seems.
