Sidebar Content Has Moved Around

August 14, 2008 by kishner

I have moved the Recent Comments feed to the right sidebar because the javascript was slowing down the loading time for the page. The Google Search field was moved up the page. I am also trying to remove as much clutter as possible (ads excepted!). Suggestions are welcome. I’m considering removing the Recent Forum Discussions feed, and wonder if there’ll be protest.

Does it help you when we click an ad?

Should I click an ad every time I load the page?

No, may. In fact, in one of my publisher agreements I am not allowed to encourage visitors to click on ads.

I dont’ think you need the sidebar feed for the forum. It would be good to have a feed for all of the blog posts responded to.

The Recent Forum Discussions feed is necessary, at least for the forum. Most new visitors arrive on the blog via a search engine and they may see a discussion they are interested in, which prompts them to look at the forum and sign up. I think most forum members found the forum through the blog. Last week there were a sharp decrease in number of new members which I think is due to the blog feed not showing up that week.

I am so grammatically incorrect this week.

@allegra, I shall defer to your expertise in this matter, as you are the forum moderator. I will leave the forum feed in the sidebar.
