The astrology of celebrity relationships: Do you care?

July 22, 2008 by kishner

  • Is TMZ.com your default home page?
  • Are you interested in both planets and stars (and I don’t mean the fixed kind)?
  • Do you lose sleep because Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel broke up, and you want to know why?

Or do you just not give a flying fig newton?

Please let me know in the poll below. If there is sufficient interest, I might feature weekly astro-gossip.

Because I haven’t completely sold out yet.

I voted yes and to answer your questions:

    No.

    Yes.

No, but I lost a bet on that one.

No, TMZ.com would never be my home page & no, I would never lose sleep over Jimmy Kimmel's divorce. But there's something to be said about looking at these relationship successes or faliures, from an astrological point of view. It's a useful & interesting learning tool. You had blogged about Madonna's possible divorce from Guy a few weeks back and talked about the Saturn transit through her 12th house. Reading that gave me a clue as to my own Saturn transit through the 12th house and my divorce. I had never somehow connected those dots before on my own. Since the celebs' lives are so public and most of us, even those who don't care to follow TMZ.com, know about it, to lesser or greater extent, it would be interesting to see them play out their charts and transits. If you did actually do such a weekly feature, please don't look at it as a 'sell out'. Learning can happen anywhere in any form, and one modality of learning is not necessarily superior than another. Keep an open mind. Hope you do blog about it.

I am not particularly interested in the astrology of celebrity relationships because they usually do not last long enough to matter. Also, I don’t know anything about these celebrities and neither do most of the people who are reporting about them. Insights into the relationship of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, for instance, are nothing but conjecture. If Brad wants to comment on a post and add some clarification about his feelings for Angelina that’s one thing. But if Susie Trendy reporter is commenting on Brad’s chart…I don’t care- because she doesn’t know diddly about the nitty gritty that goes on behind closed doors when BP and AJ are alone together, just the two of them, their families and their kids. It’s all just going to be speculation without any qualification.

No, it’s never been my thing. I like poking around in the charts of famous dead people, especially artists or writers, but most of them are relatively obscure. Plus, they’re dead. Most of the time it’s less of a speculative matter (the lifestyle part, not the live/dead part.)

I like reading examples of people’s charts. Celebrities are easy sources of that (i.e public domain). Ergo, I’m cool with it.

    Um. What is TMZ?

I read your Angelina Jolie analysis, and it was interesting. That’s because she’s a well known figure that I COULDN’T avoid. She’s kind of everywhere. But in terms of tabloid stuff… I don’t watch television. I have a lot of things in myself that I need to focus on right now. I can’t distract.

  7. Michelle says:

Hmmm…after re-reading Shygirl’s post, it is interesting about Saturn transiting through Madonna’s 12th. My BF and I have been going through some really rough ground lately and Saturn just transited my 12th…I almost broke up with him…permanently. Unfortunately, my progressed Saturn is hovering on the edge of the 12th.

Oh no, please. No astro-entertainment. I wouldn’t be so averse to this if done well, but the growing number of astrologers cheapening astrology for the media is astounding. It certainly doesn’t help to get astrology to be taken more seriously. This blog is fine celeb-free.

  9. Sage says:

TMZ is too snarky for me and after a while, Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel both annoy me. But occasionally I am curious about the astrological makeup of some celebrities and wouldn’t minding reading something every now and then…

LOL, am I the only one that caught that? “Because I haven’t completely sold out yet…” hahahah That was funny Jeffrey.

@snapdragon: I admit I am a google traffic whore, and I question how I can build the blog without sacrificing the integrity of astrology. That being said, I (honestly!) was poring over Sarah and Jimmy’s solar charts a few days ago, and I think it’s useful to offer case studies if they are illuminating.

  12. Shygirl says:

Why would there be even a possibility of integrity of astrology being sacrificed by writing about the astrology of famous relationships? You write about readers’ relationship questions off and on. Are celebrities of lesser value or lower class that talking about their relationships in the context of astrology supposed to sacrifice astrology’s integrity?

  13. Jeffrey Kishner says:

It’s all a matter of how it’s done, shygirl. I don’t mean that celebs are of lesser value. As Allegra seems to suggest, many pop astrology websites focus on just the Sun sign compatibility of celebs, which doesn’t do any justice to astrology. It has do be done well.

Jeffrey, the very reason that you stated is the (only?) reason that I would read it.

If someone really wanted to learn, it could be very useful to be able to objectively look at a chart and see how it has played out. Also to see similarities between your own and a “stars” chart and see how it has affected their life.

P.S. Always enjoy reading your stuff, Jeffrey
