The Astrology of Kink: Taurus the Hedonist

Let’s take a closer look at the pleasure-hungry Taurus.
Taurus is the most sensual influence in the zodiac, bar none. Ruled by Venus, Taureans live to be pleasurably stimulated. Great food, good wine, fine music, long afternoons spent lounging in lavish comfort — if it involves pleasing sensations, Taurus is there.
In the bedroom, this is an obvious plus. There’s no sign like Taurus for creating a lavish experience out of even the simplest sexual encounter; decadent foreplay is one of their specialties. The sense of taste, in particular, is highly developed. Whole-body oral exploration turns them on (so long as you taste nice) and many Taureans like to incorporate food into sexual scenarios. Does the idea of sharing a ripe mango in the shower turn you on? The more senses involved, the more Taurus likes it.
This hedonistic tendency is tied inextricably to self-indulgence. They’re always quick to take the less active position, such as lying prone with the partner on top. With Venus, however, this is not due to a desire to be dominated; it’s due to the “Please me!” nature of Venus herself. Like any self-respecting romance novel heroine, Venus wants to lie back and … well, be pleasured. So long as it feels good, Taurus is content to sit back and enjoy the scenery.
In fact, Taurus alone isn’t very kinky at all. The stronger the Taurean influence, the more conservative the sex drive. This holds true even in nonstandard relationships, such as same-sex or poly. It’s not that Taurus is inhibited — it’s definitely not — but Taurus prefers to stick with the tried-and-true pleasures that have worked so well in the past. (This tendency is strongest in the Taurus Mars, where some of the Venusian sensuality is lost, as well.) To find a truly experimental Taurus, you’ll need to look for other influences, such as Aquarius/Uranus, or Scorpio/Pluto.
A Bull who is heavily influenced by Pluto, though, is an altogether different animal. Incredible tops, these people funnel all the subtle power of Pluto through the sensuality of Venus. They have the inner strength and sexual confidence to pull off the most sensually erotic domination scenarios — teasing, sensual “torture,” and other methods of eliciting protracted sensational response are favorites. These people are often an irresistible force of erotic nature.
However, this combination can also tend toward cruelty. Agreed-upon boundaries and safe words must be treated as law, or simple scenarios can become dangerous. Venus is loving, sure, but like her counterpart Mars, she’s also inherently selfish. Even non-Plutonian Taureans require a firm assertion of your own needs and wishes; otherwise, they become so caught up in their own pleasure that your desires — and sometimes your basic comfort and safety — are completely forgotten.
Taurus is the sensualist of the zodiac, and can experience the physical pleasures of sex like no other. Touch, taste, sound, smell … this sign wants it all. If your appetites are compatible with this earthy vibe, look for the Sun or Venus in Taurus, or for this sign on the Ascendant. And don’t forget to bring the mangoes….

Maybe THAT’S why I’m attracted to Taurus guys that are younger than me ! I’ve got Pluto in Libra, and those guys I know all got that Scorpio/Pluto vibe thing going for them. I’m attracted to guys with Mars in Taurus, for some reason. There was always this fear of getting attached to one of them, beacuse of the “unexperimental” Taurus qualities inherent with the placement. Fantastic article. The only thing that I find a bit puzzling is that I am a Taurus and somehow I don’t think I am as conservative as you describe us.
Although my sun is in the 11th house and my moon is in Aquarius and that may mean that you are right on point. I hear you loud and clear about Taurus Mars as I know an Aries friend with a Taurus Mars and from what i can tell from this persons mate, their style is a bit …predictable.
I must also commend this article on its clear illustration on Taurean/Venus always being there for pleasure. Although I consider myself an active sexual/sensual partner the article suggests that maybe Taurean lean toward being selfish; more likely to receive when nothing gives me more pleasure than being than raining down super size portions of heat on my subject. Please help me fill in the blanks.

In knew I had a passionate drive but I am not always sure if that is a good thing or if I may be unintentionally turning people off if it is coming across TOO strong.

Minos, I’m glad you enjoyed the article! It’s not that all Taureans are completely conventional– both you and May are right about that!– but more that the pure, unadulterated Venusian/Taurean energy tends toward the conventional. It can definitely be modified by other chart factors.
Check your Venus first (as your life ruler.) Is she in the eighth house? Is she aspected by Pluto or Uranus? Is she in a less conservative sign, such as Sagittarius, Scorpio, or Aquarius?
Then take a look at Mars, which will offer another a big clue about sexual style. Is your Mars in a more interactive, relational sign such as Pisces, Virgo, or Libra? This can modify the self-centered (and I try to use this term in a completely neutral way…in her raw state, Venus is attractive, rather than projective or communicative…maybe the word “gravitational” would be better than “self-centered”) tendency of pure Taurean/Venusian sexuality.
Then take a look at Pluto itself. A strong Pluto on one of the angles, especially on the ascendant or imum coeli, can translate into sexual intensity, or a heightened sense of sexuality. An eighth house Pluto can do the same thing. Pluto is often overlooked as a sexual indicator, but when it has a tie to the basic sexual or psychological factors in the chart, it’s very noticeable in the bedroom!
Ditto for Uranus, but to a lesser extent. Uranus’ effect is somewhat less predictable (predictably enough, ha!) but it’s definitely the planet of experimentation; if tied to someone’s Venus or Mars, they’ll be less conservative, regardless of Sun sign.
Minotaur, you just keep being a Taurus…the strong, sensual Taurean drive is one of the things the right people find most attractive about you!

My Venus is in the zenith position or 10th house and is Firmly in Aries-so I noticed I tend to be on the Assertive daredevil like frequency when it comes to outward expression of passion. Also Venus is trined with My Mars in Sagittarius (6th house–yes I am a workaholic but I play just as hard.)
You especially called it with Uranus as Venus is opposite of Libra (0.16) in Uranus in the 4th house. Although I must say I am not entirely sure where Uranus gets that kick of kink from.
I think the eeriest part of your response is that my Pluto (in Virgo) is in conjunction with my Imum Coeli. That was uncanny, you are amazing! But the Jackpot was that my Pluto has 10 Aspects. Pluto trines with My Aquarius moon (in the eight house) and is sextile with the Mars and Venus (both the previously mentioned fire signs.) So perhaps the reason one things about other Taureans that seem odd to me is the resistance (for lack of a better term) to try new things and venture away from the comfort zone. I won’t pretend that I don’t mostly draw between the lines, but sometimes I am all over the canvas. is that the predictable unpredictability you eluded to with regard to Uranus?

I agree completely. My ex was a taurus, and he was very conservative. That was an obvious bad match for a pisces with scorpio on the rise. Not only was he conservative, but so very selfish (and insecure) that it manifested in extreme jealousy. That taurus was displaying the worst though. I’m not dissing taureans, just that one, but that is absolutely how the negative aspect of the sun sign manifests.
Being the piscean with scorpio rising, I tried more than once to introduce some element of kink to the relationship, and was shut down, and either teased or defamed for my suggestion, or the jealousy would explode (for no good reason). I stopped trying to “spice things up” very quickly.

Just wanted to chime in as a Taurean male here who doesn’t really understand any of the whole “house” and “ascendant” stuff, but is greatly intrigued. I’ve only just started reading about the matter. My “sun” is evidently in Taurus, and Gemini is my ascendant. At least according to an online chart I recently “read.”
Anyhow, while the wife (of 10 years) and I probably look like your normal plane Jane boring married couple with 2 kids, the house, the 2 car garage, it’s the secret things that go on in our bedroom (or in motel rooms) that have long perplexed me as to the origins of the desires. Now I’m wondering if some of my inherent “kink” can be attributed to my Taurean nature?
Others have mentioned “swinger sex.” I’ll say that we’re very much into that, only in a highly refined manner. Except for the part about being conventional and cruel but I think that may be because of the Pisces influence.
