The zodiac signs do not get equal treatment on this blog

January 7, 2008 by kishner

A reader expressed concern that I was writing too much about Scorpios and not enough about Capricorns. If you browse the pages for each of the signs (top of left sidebar), you’ll see that I haven’t written an equal number of posts about each of the twelve signs of the zodiac.

Why is this?

  1. I write about what interests me, and what interests me is reflected in my natal chart and transits. Capricorns just don’t fascinate me as much as Scorpios do. Although I am intellectually interested in all the signs, I have to write about my passions … otherwise, what’s the point?
  2. I frankly believe that some zodiac signs generate more “juice” than others among my readers. The following table shows how many hits the Top 9 sign pages got over the last 30 days:

table

As you can see, the Scorpio page gets way more attention than the others, nearly double the Capricorn page. (And if you browse the social network, you’ll see that apparently half the women are gaga for Scorpios.)

Of course, it is possible that through the Law of Resonance, Scorpio lovers have been attracted to Seduction Central to commiserate with each other. Perhaps there is another nest on the net that nourishes Capricorn lovers. (I really wonder.)

Some of you feel abandoned or overlooked. So here’s a poll to let me know which signs you’d like me to write more about. I make no promises, but I do listen.

I don’t feel slighted (Virgo) as it’s important to speak on what you are knowledgeable about. Knowledge is best when passion driven. IMO

  2. Composed Capricorn says:

Thanks for the good chuckle. I do love joking that SC really stands for Scorpio Central.

Us Caps are boring, dull and predictable as all hell, Scorpios ARE more juicy :) Keep up the fantastic work Jeffrey!

  3. bis says:

i have only perused a limited amount so this is all a grain of salt of course but i think part of the problem could be that all the types are not captured equally in much of the astro literature, etc out there. if astrologers have done a good job w/scorpio it will attract and resonate with many whereas the poor job(from what i gather) done with capricorns making them sound very cut and dry, as ‘the careerman’ for example, has little resonance because it doesnt really capture essentially whats up.

of course i am biased, being more critical to my own sign but likewise i have rarely read descriptions about geminis that to me sounds like a real person. maybe if few geminis go into astrology (donno) there could few personal connections on the part of writers which could lead them to feeling caricature ish or unhuman and empty, but im not saying this is the reason.

with scorpios in particular i think there could be the element of accuracy but i also find that there is definite over romanticization of a ‘dark, profound, mysterious’ sign. of course there is some truth in the dark fantastic scorpio, but this feature lends itself to being overblown because it is attractive to readers and writers whereas our friends the capricorn do not have this romantic seed to sprout a whole mythology.

though they are less legitimate than astrology, not on an equal plane, it is worth mentioning that this problem exists w/other psychology related systems like myers brigg there is giant pro-N bias and in enneagram (a system of 9 types) people complain so much of these ‘inequalities’ between the types that it brings tears to your eyes to read about.

i dont mean this as criticism just rambling off observation. its maybe factually wrong but it is how i feel. anyway no problem, it doesnt bother me personally. apparently like you too jeffrey i believe in markets. if it was worth it enough for me for instance i could study my beating heart out to write my own gemini material or commission someone else to but: nao.

to be real about it like u say there are also explanations inherent in each sign why there is more demand for certain ones. scorpios are fixed and go in depth in their areas i guess (?) whereas its highly dubious there would be significant gemini market i mean in general for the majority of us/them it is true it is really asking a lot of the mind to go seriously in depth in any one area. ‘we’ would like the information on us if it were immediately there but wont stick around long enough to develop it ourselves, maybe.

  4. Allegra says:

I agree that the zodiac signs do not get equal treatment on the blog, and on the forum as well. I think it is just because Scorpios, much more than other signs, tend to play mind games that confuse their lovers, thus leading them to seek help. The other signs are a lot more straightforward, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Everyone likes a nice puzzle now and then, but they can get to be exhausting. Personally, I would love it if I understood my relationship with someone enough so that I wouldn’t have to enlist the help of members of an online forum.

I’ve always found Aquarians as interesting as Scorpios though, and lately I’ve been trying to learn more about them seeing as my current love interest is a Cap-Aqua cusp with Aquarius Moon conjunct Mercury. So, I would like to see more on Aquarians if possible. One can never know too much. And also on Moon signs, which I find to be as important as the Sun sign in dealing with relationships. And Jeff, as you have a nicely unaspected Aquarius Moon, I think you should be very knowledgeable in this area ;)

  5. Jeffrey Kishner says:

@bis, good point. For what it’s worth, I have no planets or angles in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, or Capricorn — so despite years of study, these signs aren’t as integral to my psyche as are the other signs.

  6. angelineelise says:

I agree with allegra on the scorpio
phenom. I do love the Scorps!

I personally don’t feel slighted personally because I feel that if I ask a question on the forum it’s going to be given the respect it deserves.

I come here to get insight from other people and make myself a better study of astrology through combined experience.

p.s- I have a secret pet peeve of people calling Caps boring or dull, I just have to say I don’t view myself as either.

  7. angelineelise says:

I took a look at another astrology blog and it seems the total posts for Pisces(73) and Scorps(63) dominate over Caps(31) and dwarfs Aquarius (19) I think it’s the kind of people who take to the web for advice! Amazing!!

  8. Anonymous says:

Geez, I’m a Scorpio and even I’m sick of hearing about us… ;) Just kidding, I find all your articles insightful and interesting, clearly because you’re writing about what grabs you.

For what it’s worth, I’ve always wanted to find a nice Cap guy. People say “steady” and “predictable” like it’s a BAD thing…

  9. leslee says:

Well, when you call your blog “Seduction Central” one would expect lots of Scorpio! Should I assume that Plutonians are covered, too? I have some Scorpio planets (outer ones in aspect to personal planets), and a bunch of progressed planets in Scorp. But the main thing is a prominent Pluto. Like Scorpio on steroids.

  10. ZoraidaGitana says:

You have to admit, Scorpios are fascinating !

and I agree with a lot of the different points raised here. Jeffrey is correct in saying, it’s whatever is fuelling the market- at the moment, there are many Scorpios subscribing to this network, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It helps to hear a Scorpionic point of view and to stop others from being judgemental about them.

I think what Jeffrey has done with this site is unique and I throroughly enjoy reading and learning so much from it. I agree, keep up the fantastic work.

Many scorpios like to delve and investigate, and that’s a great trait to have, which is probably why there are many on the site. So, perhaps some Geminis, unless certain aspects of their charts suggest it, might not want to spend their time on Seduction Central. And that’s a great point, that Bis made- people start believing the hype about Scorpios- as if they are somehow dark, Bryonic , romanticised creatures, with no shred of morality or empathy-
that’s stereotyping, and caricaturising, and it’s empty and unproductive- as we know people are so complex and ambivalent, and contradictory, whether they’re Scorpios. Geminis, Librans, or what . This is why lots of people find sun sign descriptions don’t really add up. And just as well…..

I like allegra’s point, too, that many people may want some closure from some of their experiences with ex-Scorpio lovers, so they come here to seek counsel and clarity
and that’s perfectly valid, because one person’s insight is worth so much in terms of wisdom and self- care for the future, for another person.

I have to confess a scorpio ex I was involved with, showed some rather worrying signs of control and manipulation – I hate to say it ( I’m trying not to go down that road of generalisation!!)- but being a free spirit, I’ve escaped ( whether I am sane or not, is another matter).

I think it’s very true that some of us tend to be only interested in our own signs or signs which often make up part of our psyche. However, it’s great to have an insight on everyone, as we know a variety of people, be it at work, home, personal etc- wouldn’t you like to know what makes them tick?
I do…. I’d like to see stuff on other signs, even if it’s detail on signs on the cusps of houses, which everyone has, or various signs in planets etc, and the manisfestation of those. After all, there are other signs who subscribe to this network, and they’d like to explore personality, sexuality and realtionships from different sign’s experiences.

It is sad that there is a bias too in some psychology- related areas ( myers- briggs)- thanks for pointing that out.

And hey, I know a lot of cool Capricorns – and none of them are boring or dull. Many of them have wicked , dry senses of humour. I’m sticking up for them!

They are supposed to be quite passionate underneath. You know what they say about the quiet ones… ( well, at least in the Uk, that’s what we say….. )

  11. Victoria says:

Hey, I’m surprised that Leo, Libra and Gemini didn’t make it on to your initial list of hits.

They have to be the most annoying signs of al1! Surely that should generate some more agitated responses from your readers, male or female regardless.

  12. Victoria says:

(sorry the l on my keyboard is sticky)

  13. Anonymous says:

Way to go Jeffrey thats impressive your virgoness is out on this one. The one that wins for sure is MAN, is there any men out there searching for this stuff. I would suggest to target more MEN. :-) Ms. Diff aka Sharon

  14. exclusion.blue says:

Cappies simply make less trouble than Scorps (Scorps, I love you just as always, don’t get offended), unless you want to change their mind ;) so it all makes sense.

I guess that’s why I fall for Cappies. Stability :D

Jeff, no worries, it’s all good ;)

    Crabb :D

  15. Summer Cusp says:

Lately Capricorns are discussed a lot. I agree with Jeff though Scorpio is very interesting I cant resist talking about them. However I am bummed that no one discusses Gemini. I’d like to understand more about Gemini.

  16. Anonymous says:

Well it’s that Capricorn time of year! It’s nice when a Sun sign gets the spotlight appropriate for when the Sun transits their section of the sky. Keeps things organized and in perspective so then no one gets left out.

As far as understanding more about Gemini, ignorance is bliss! What you don’t know can’t hurt you . . .

  17. max says:

I figured it had to be because of the Saturn in Leo thing in the SC electional. If you’d waited until Saturn was in Virgo, it’d be nothing but the horros of those flighty, uncommitted Gemini and Sag men.

  18. Anonymous says:

Anyone who has been with a Capricorn knows….that they are anything, BUT boring! That’s okay…more for those of us that love them….you don’t know what you’re missing. And I hope you don’t find out.

  19. Jeffrey Kishner says:

@leslee, I do have a 1st House Pluto opposite Venus, so yes, I would expect Plutonic people would get attention on this blog.

  20. BalancedSag says:

Something to add to this interesting topic would be – is there a chart for Seduction Central?! There should be one for the time of its “birth” – that would be interesting to see where Scorpio/pluto is etc… and another point to add is that Jeffery, the one who started this is a Scorpio, so not only is he w/some obvious interest in the sign; the fact that he started this and IS a Scorpio has probably had some effect also!!

    - I personally think that others signs etc.. will naturally be talked about – that there doesn’t have to be pressure about it, it will come – and if it didn’t – then yes, it means that, heck, the scorpionic energies of intense mystery is just here on Seduction Central!

This plutonian love for mystery solving will have to turn to other signs etc.. eventually for Scorpios LOVE knowledge and will eventualy (once they have figured themselves or their Scorpio lovers out the best they can) NATURALLY really WANT to also understand any mysteries that are there for other signs :)

  21. bis says:

isnt jeffrey a pisce nao é. funny i voted for more gemini and more leo. more pisce would actually be nice too. u know i think geminis actually have a very fabbed image here ,not just scorpio. i like it lol. they sound like mentally exquisite creatures who buzz in and out of whatever scene rolling like sa-wish. surhuman really, i wish!! “ignorance is bliss” lol. the press is so bad its good. mmm dieu, kiss the sky.
cut and dry fact is too boring theres not enough truth to it, i like these subjectivities. reading retroactively, Gemini Scorpio Reasons for Breakup is one of my favorite posts. classical references are always sweet.

  22. Sagilarious says:

    @ balancedsag and bis

Jeffrey is a PISCES and he is married to a SCORPIO.

Gosh, you people really need to profile your information sources! Why would you take information from someone you haven’t analyzed first? That is like taking a class without ever doing your homework!

  23. BalancedSag says:

Oh, dear me, Jeffrey is a Pisces!! (well, another mysterious sign!) – I was looking to peak at Jeffrey’s chart – either its not there or I did not take enough time to find it (I was curious if I was picking up on some other Scorpio stuff in his chart?!) anyhow…

Hey, bis, what sign-mixtures are you (to have this Gemini thing-interest? – I wonder?

  24. Terri says:

Jeffrey, I’m perfectly fine with you writing about what interests you. Yours is not the only blog I read, nor the only astrology blog/site that I peruse. Other people write about what interests them too. I read about what interests me. If I can’t find it here then I’ll find it elsewhere. Besides, Scorpio and Seduction rather do go hand in hand, don’t they?

Anyhow, I have a Pisces sun and I am of the belief that if I want a dog, then I should get a dog, not teach the cat how to bark. Please, write whatever you want. I’ll read it for general knowledge, and what’s missing, I will seek and find elsewhere. That’s why there isn’t just one book in the library.

  25. Jeffrey Kishner says:

@Terri, I think that’s the best possible attitude.

  26. Jeffrey Kishner says:

@balancedsag, Seduction Central’s first blog post was Nov 6, 2006. I didn’t keep track of the time. I’m a crappy electional astrologer. But you can run a noon or sunrise chart for NY NY.

  27. bis says:

oi balanced, i am a gemini yup, with leo rising. that is the reason why.
lol sagilarious, but u know, one thing is indeed true for geminis- truth and validity isnt really the number one concerns.

  28. BalancedSag says:

bis, on the truth thing, it may come out a bit different and technically, maybe its not said to be an astrological match; but if you looked into some Pisces (not all- I am not prejudice), you might well find one that could agree w/you!

  29. librarising says:

Scorpios scare me. I don’t know how much I want to know about their murky depths. :)

And really, are sun-sign compatibilities really the end-all and be-all, or is it more important to look at Mars/Venus or angles included in synastry?

One thing I’m also curious about is why things don’t work out between people even when the planets seem to be aligned and they are the utmost in compatibility.

  30. badnoozbetty says:

okay max says he figures it had to be because of the Saturn in Leo thing in the SC electional

okay that part I get cause scorp central here is really toughon those know-it-all leos yeah for sure heh heh

the second part max says i dont know what the hell he is talkingabout

    does anybody else?

  31. Jeffrey Kishner says:

@badnoozbetty, apparently Max is looking at the signs that square Saturn in Leo — Taurus and Scorpio. If the blog was born during Saturn in Virgo, he thinks we’d be obsessed with Gemini and Sag.

  32. Sagilarious says:

    obsessed with sag????

  33. BalancedSag says:

With regards to the saturn Leo thing – wouldn’t that mean we would be talking about Tauruses just as well? They are pretty awesome, in their own stubbbborrrn way!! (I can talk about em because I have Taurus rising myself – and of course I am not stubbbborrrn, myself, at all?!). They have that stability/consistent thing going that Capricorns have too that hasn’t been brought up. The AWESOME part of the Capricorn stability is that they will DEFINITELY be MORE than happy to lead (for if and when you need someone to take charge) but for if and when you are in your own take charge mood, there is nothing like a Taurus to be there for you, be helpful and stable w/out the major leading thing going on (an occasional bull will do this from time to time though!)

Is it obvious that I am a Sag – w/the – in that I describe the need for some leading (which an archer, even if they don’t admit it, needs from time to time) and at other times, will really find the necessity to be their own “leader”, so to speak.

  34. BalancedSag says:

Ummm – there is like a 5 planet stellium in SC chart in Scorpio; I think this explains it!! Mercury is in Scorp too – so SC would like “talking/communicating” about Scorp stuff, obviously (and the venus love thing for Scorp, and the mars energy and drive to delve into Scorp stuff, lit by the Sun etc… you get the picture)!

Absolutely, no way?! The mars on SC chart is exactly conjunct my natal mars, the venus is too (w/in 1 degree) AND the jupiter is also conjunct my jupiter (w/in one degree)!! WOW – is my energy, love and possibly luck here or what?!!! – And mercury sextiles my mercury (w/in 3 degrees)- giving me more blab momentum!

I can go on and on – the pluto on SC conjuncts my Sun (w/in 4 degrees)so I will probably easily contribute to the plutonian edge on SC, SC Sun conjuncts both my venus and mars (love and energy again!)- and SC saturn is on my south node; maybe I will learn a lot about south node stuff after all!

It would be nice to know the rising sign and specifics of the moon (it could go Taurus or Gemini) – what do you think so far guys, does SC seem more like a Taurus or a Gemini Moon?

  35. Jeffrey Kishner says:

    @balancedsag — We’re lucky to have you here :)

Maybe I’ll do a series on the South Node as it relates to relationships …

  36. common sense says:

“One thing I’m also curious about is why things don’t work out between people even when the planets seem to be aligned and they are the utmost in compatibility”

Error correct. Even when the planets “seem” to be aligned and compatible . . .

They either are or they aren’t. If the cons outweigh the pros then of course the relationship will be weighed in the balance and found wanting.

When you write an exam you either pass or fail. One or the other. The grey areas allow for how badly you fail or how magnificently you pass.

    Same goes for planetary alignments.

The natal chart is nearly foolproof. “Nearly” because there’s always a minute percentage of error as to the time of birth as recalled by the mother (or the nurse at the hospital).

    Cheerio.
